'94 toyota clutch problems

I have a '94 toyota pickup, 4 cyl 5 speed and I think the clutch is going out. It engages at the very top of the pedal, not very smooth, and I'm starting to smell burnt clutch smell, even though I'm really careful not to ride the clutch. Is there a way to adjust these, or does it sound like it's going out?

next question: Are they hard to replace? I've never done one.

Thanks!

Did the symptoms just appear?

Sounds like a slave cylinder or master cylinder crapping out.

No, the clutch is not hard to replace, the toughest part is accessing the upper 2 bellhousing bolts. This is easiest done through the shifter hole from the inside.

well, I've only had the truck for about 150 of it's miles and its always taken it until the very top of the pedal for the truck to "go" from a stop, but it just started to smell a little. Also, it seems like I have to push it into gear a little harder than I did when i first got it. It doesn't slip into the gears very smoothly. If I try and shift too fast (and when I say too fast, I mean as fast as you would normally shift any manual), it grinds a little.

Its sounds like its either your slave cyl or your clutch its self.
Id check your slave cyl first since its easy to replace.

Yeah Tyler check your fluid and your slave cylinder those are common symptoms and if its not those I can head down there and we can replace the clutch. Its not too hard, I just helped Steve do his on his first gen.

The slave cylinder will be on the transmission bellhousing on the passenger side. I have an extra one I got from a junk yard of a second gen pick up but it should be the same. let me know if you need it.
