So, I pull out of a parking space last night and as I start to drive home, my truck won't up shift. All I have is first gear. That sucks.

At any rate, I guess its time for a new tranny. I need to go down and talk to Joey at J&G and see if I need a full rebuild or if it's something less expensive. I fear the worst, but I can't afford either. At any rate, are there any fairly inexpensive upgrades I can have done to the dodge tranny to make it stronger. I did some research a year or two ago and it seems like I remember all worthwhile upgrades almost doubling the price of the transmission. I can't afford a 3-5000 dollar tranny--actually I can't afford a 250 dollar tranny but this **** happens sometimes.

I need to see how much I have in my stocks so I can cash out and buy a tranny. :mad2:

I'd have it checked out before writing it off as totally shot. I drove a 2001 CTD truck that is owned by an excavator that works for me the other day, and his did the same thing. I drove it probably 10 miles or so, and I was able to get it to shift out of first by driving in drive, shifting to neutral, and then back to drive. I stopped it, fueled it up, and drove it back to the jobsite and the tranny shifted fine all the way back. I asked him about it and he says that it only does it occasionally, and usually begins acting normal again after shutting it off and re-starting it. His auto has 144K on it of hard use towing bobcats and occasionally smaller trackhoes. Good luck with yours though and let us know what you find out.

Well, mine just doesn't shift out of 1st. I talked to Joey at J&G and he seemed pretty optimistic about it being something fairly small like a solenoid and simple. I'm dropping it off down there in the morning for him to take a look. I really hope that it is something not too expensive. A new tranny is going to absolutely break me.

I'm willing to bet that it's your Governer Solenoid (controls the 1-2 shift sequence) in the tranny. Stuck open or closed... either of which will cause different problems.

Good luck Cody. :)
