99 Dodge 1500 sport Engine Questions

One of my soldiers siezed his 360 Magnum in his 1500. He doesn't have the budget to buy another 360, I however have a 318 out of a Durango sitting in the back of my shop. Is it possible to drop the 318 in in place of the 360 and fool the computer/minor reprogram or do I need to get a 318 computer for it. I'm not a Dodge guy so I have no idea what can intarchange with each other like that.

I had a '97 Chevy with a 305 that I put a 350 in. I used the same computer and it ran just fine. Everything I found at the time said they were basically the same computers. Couldn't tell you on the Dodge but I would guess it would be fine. I think the issue would be with the transmission - if you were changing that out and swapping manual to auto or auto to manual, you would have some differences.

No keeping the trans that is in it. Oh and correction it is a 97 Dodge 1500 sport.

I believe those motors are balanced differently. I think it could be done but you will need to swap torque convertors also.

I went looking for the ECU and I don't think I pulled it out of the Durango before we hauled it off. I have the trans/t-case from the Durango still too so I can swap converters.
