looking for a website to use for local news, weather, etc. I still jump on ksl in the morning but I'm going to try and stop using them because of the removal of gun sales from their classifieds. What other websites do y'all use for local/national news and local weather?

Wundeground for weather. I try to stay away from the news, it's always depressing or retarded and sometimes both.

so them taking gun sales off was the tipping-point for you? not the fact that they are a total, and complete joke as far as news reporting goes?

i use yahoo, same Asoociated press stories that KSL "cuts-and-pastes" with less asinine "have you seen this......." fluff stories, and paid advertisements passed off to the KSL reader as "news"

"have you seen this motorhome with a boat that attaches to it?..........its news we swear thats why we put it on the front page of our website in the news feed"

I'd apply that to the media as a whole

i would too, the internet media especially. one story gets written and 12,000 "news" sites pick it up via cut-and-paste

there was this story on ksl about a german town that had a 540 year old debt it had from 1562, i searched it and found 37 pages of results of reposts of the story
but i did the math that is only 450 years! the first story was a little dyslexic and 37 pages of news sites reporting 540 (like the huffington post etc.) didn't freaking catch it

any person who considers themselves "informed" but uses the media to accompish it is a dense individual indeed

i "find out" but don't consider myself "informed"

the media is spun, biased, mis reported, and overall not precise. and should be treated accordingly

the same reasons that i don't use internet forums for "information" just as a means to kill time

Ok, so how do you find out about what is going on locally, regionally, nationally, globally if not through "the media"?

To me, the media has proven to not be worth my time to seek it out. I've heard what I need to hear for the past few years from word of mouth. When I find something I need to educate myself about, I need to check MSNBC for a slanted version, Fox for another slanted version and CNN for another slanted version and decide where I think the story medium is. Same for local news. It'd be nice if there was a journalism source that I trusted, but I don't.

Interesting. So there is no information of value on forums such as RME and you are unable to draw your own conclusions from data presented to you through the media because of its inherent "spin, bias, and imprecision".

Maybe check http://www.standard.net/ and Sltrib for local (usually have the same stories as KSL anyhow.. then BBC, aljazeera for some international flair, then nbc, cnn, huffington post for some national.. and just remember newspapers are there to make money :)

KSL=mojazeera
Caving to a bunch of crappy hype means I won't look at their site as much but I'm too hooked to go cold turkey.

I read drudge a lot because it sites multiple "news" sources.
