As long as the shop requires their customers to adhere to the same PPE and safety guidelines as their employees they should have no more concern for a customer walking through the shop as opposed to an employee. Of course some shops have no safety policies and those shops are the ones that should be concerned.
My insurance company looks at things differently, unless they are an employee, they are not going to be covered. General liability likely would. Beside the point, I don't think it should be expected for a small (or large) 4x4 shop to just drop what they are doing to give a tour, its not fair to the customers who have projects they are waiting on. Don't get me wrong its nice when they do but if a customer would like some 'extra attention' above and beyond the normal business transaction they should ask for a good time. My customers are generally great this way, they know that afternoons are crazy with shipping and deliveries thus I can't spent time showing them around or crawling all over their rig... However if they schedule an appointment for the morning I can set aside time to spend with them. I'd expect many shops would have similar protocol and expectations.
