As long as the shop requires their customers to adhere to the same PPE and safety guidelines as their employees they should have no more concern for a customer walking through the shop as opposed to an employee. Of course some shops have no safety policies and those shops are the ones that should be concerned.

My insurance company looks at things differently, unless they are an employee, they are not going to be covered. General liability likely would. Beside the point, I don't think it should be expected for a small (or large) 4x4 shop to just drop what they are doing to give a tour, its not fair to the customers who have projects they are waiting on. Don't get me wrong its nice when they do but if a customer would like some 'extra attention' above and beyond the normal business transaction they should ask for a good time. My customers are generally great this way, they know that afternoons are crazy with shipping and deliveries thus I can't spent time showing them around or crawling all over their rig... However if they schedule an appointment for the morning I can set aside time to spend with them. I'd expect many shops would have similar protocol and expectations.

I agree that scheduling ahead of time is a respectful way to go about checking out an operation. Our shop might be swamped one day, and slower the next. Aligning schedules is respectful of the shop's time, and the other customers who are paying to have their equipment/products done and ready.

Anyways, that's cool that they showed you around. It's always cool when you get the grand tour of a company. I'm envious of your ARB tour.. ;)

Wow... this topic has really gotten off topic.... Someone talks about asshats in the parts location and then another speaks as if the same asshats work at the driveline shop. Then we talk about tours and insurance.

Over the last 15+ years I have solely used Six States Driveline shop to build and repair all of my shafts. Never once was I treated poorly, but I also treat Eric with respect because of his knowledge in the industry, he is a good man, ornery at times, but a good man.

The Parts Store has been off and on, sometimes great service and other times I stand there like I am invisible, trust me, I'm not patient...

Now, pass the popcorn and drive on through.:tara:

I'd have to echo those statements exactly. I've even sat there long enough to listen to some of Erik's phone conversations. People are "interesting" that call him.....
