A pivotal day with Britney

It's been a beautiful weekend here in lovely Moab. We met Badbuggy and his faithful co-pilot Shelby on Saturday morning and began our adventure with a jaunt up Rusty Nail. Amazingly enough, we were the only rigs on the Nail! It was a mellow day although Badbuggy did have a bit of a thrill when he started up a steep climb only to get stymied at the very top and learn that his winch had pooped out. Never fear though, a brave little yellow bronco came and rescued him!:) We ran over to the Golden Crack and watched a Mule drive the crack. There was another Mule in the group and they had run all of Golden Spike and were just trucking right along. Craziness! The only other highlight of the day was when Badbuggy found some sand to do a rear dig in and proceeded to throw sand over the top of his buggy and all over him and Shelby. I found that vastly amusing!

After a lovely dinner at Zax's, we decided a night run up Poison Spider would the perfect end to an already grand day. It was almost a full moon out and still really warm. We just rallied up to the Wedgie and hung out up there for a while before returning to the tow rigs.

Sunday was another beatifully warm day and BFE was calling our names. Badbuggy really wanted another go around with the lovely Britney Spears so off we went. Badbuggy started the fun by driving UP the nasty drop on the down hill side. Man alive, that is ugly, but he made it look good! The next climb gave him a bit of grief, but preserverance won out and up he went. After a pleasant lunch and watching a surprising amount of people drive through the wash and not even see us, it was Lemon Joy's turn. In preparation for this grand adventure, the gentlemen had walked the trail and made a gameplan. Now this plan all hinged upon our big ass rig pivoting around the nasty rock at the top. Let me just say now, I was not a part of this grand plan, I was knitting. Yellowbronco starts up the hill and it was definitely NOT a walk in the park. Our poor little 38's just don't put up much of a fight against those boulders. And I don't want to hear any crack comments about our tread situation! -_- Good progress was being made though and the top of the hill is in sight. Once again, Yellowbronco re-iterates his plan of "pivoting" around the big nasty rock at the top. Sounds good in theory, but after seriously rearranging some body panels and turning a little yellow Bronco into a lazy susan on said rock, he began to rethink this theory! Unfortunatly though, he was now on top of the big nasty rock with the rock point wedged between his rockslider and a link. And the driver side tire was smooshed into another unweilding rock so he couldn't turn the wheel driver's at all. Thankfully, we carry a hammer and a high lift jack, so the fun began. There was jacking up of rig and pounding away at rock. Badbuggy, Shelby, and I had quite a pleasant time sitting on the rock watching all this fun and enjoying the fact that there had been some pivoting, only it was pivoting ON the rock, not AROUND the rock.

Now that is all for the time being. We have an appointment with the lovely Pritchett Canyon so there will be more to follow. Pictures will come tomorrow with the arrival back home and my USB cord.

let the debates begin!

"chopping rock: kosher or not?" :D  heheh climbers would kill you for that of course, but hey.

This thread is useless without pics though!

ps your thread title was very clever. I liked it.

hmmm Yellow Bronco... Saturday Night run... -_- I knew it was you.
I was in the parking lot when you unloaded. :hickey:

Sounds like fun!

We saw you guys coming out of Poison Spider before you got to the switchbacks. I was in a YJ, there was an XJ behind me, then a stock Toyota T100. We ran up past the couple obstacles beyond the waterfall but before the wedge, then turned around for the sake of the Toyota.

So lets talk about rock bashing. Looked fair to me, the rock started it.
A small point had come in the wheel and hooked between the front hub and the beadlock. We seriously could not find another way out of that one. But it was just a very small pointy rock. Felt bad about it, but it was fun to see Yellow Bronco take out some major frustration.

pictures!

 This is one of the highlights in my opinion, although there were several, and it is hard to pick a fav.

So the first part of Rusty Nail went well, ( my motor stayed in) then we stopped and watched some desert bighorn ewes trying to earn a living. They are in the first picture about centered. They watched us, we watched them, they watched us some more.... then we went on. The next obsticle is that little loop in the trail, that gives you the option of driving up a notch or not.
Yellow could'nt find the line, but put on an impressive show anyway. After airing down, I showed him how it was done!:p

It is fun to follow Yellow Bronco. I bet he could find some way to lay it over on the salt flats at 2 mph.

This is the "rescue". I went too slow right at the top, and spun out. The problem was that I had seen that You tube video of the bronco going over backwards on this spot. It's funny how much of this is mental. I felt uncomfortable backing up so I opted for a strap. ( live to fight another day):-\

And this is the mule crossing the crack.

...we stopped and watched some desert bighorn ewes trying to earn a living....

We saw a bunch of sheep too, while running Gold Bar Rim Friday afternoon. A friend in the back seat of my jeep was saying it's pretty rare to see those, they're few and far between.

Nice French Tickler on the steering wheel, there. Classy. ;)

I figured the first comment would be the rat wearing a shirt over in the bronco.
That is no way to talk about my dog there Mr! -_- I didn't see anyone else out there with their dogs dressed to match their rigs!

Frighteningly true! I speak from experience!!

After dark on the Spider. That's where we were spotted by all of you guys.
It was one of the more busy trails of the day, er night.
