A quick question...

I just want to make sure I am not going to ripped off with this deal. I found a pair of D44 off of a waggy; and he wants 200 bucks for the pair. I have a 78 CJ5 that I do not want to wheel with the stockers; what do you guys think?? Jump on it or find a better deal. I haven't checked them out yet; but he assures me they are in good shape.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, if there in good shape. I payed $200 for my front axle, and $100 for the rear they where toyota axles.

just make sure they aren't the vacuum model and you've got a 4ell of a deal.

Yep, great deal as long as the front axle isn't vacuum disconnect. Rear axle may also possibly be offset which is either good or bad depending on your application.

what year waggy axles? You have a couple things to consider, pre-1980 is passenger side drop (what you want I assume for you CJ5), 83-84 (and maybe some odd balls here and there) are very likely to have the vaccum disco like others have mentioned...you can find them in those years ranges that do not have the discos but it's more rare to not have them to have them in those years, and then like Herzog mentioned make sure the rear isn't offset (unless you need an offset rear and then make sure it is ).

As far as price thats a pretty good deal for a matching pair of axles. My general rule for most axles is $200 for fronts, $100 or less for rears. So $200 for the pair is deffinitely worth taking a look at.

Problem is most of the waggys with the pass drop front have the offset rear and the ones with the centered rears have driver drop fronts. I also dont think the waggy is the best way to go for a CJ. I would look at narrowing a Jtruck housing if I wanted to stay spring under and narrowing a chevy 44 if I wanted SOA.

I'm not sure but isn;t there a small spline count on the earlier d44 axles off waggies? something like 29 spline.... I thought I read that somewhere....

thanks for the help guys, great info! I talked to him again, they are not the vacuum disconnects so that helps a bit. When I get the cash I am going to take a look at them and see exactly what they look like. I just wanted to make sure that he would keep them for me. I will keep you updated on them, thanks again! If anyone else has an idea please post!
