Abandoning pavement.

Hi all,
I'm 38, in Logan, Utah, and I've always loved Camaros. My off-road experience is limited. Lacking?
Anyway, I finally have the opportunity to get started, and it begins with a 2WD RCSB S-10, an Explorer 8.8", an '01 4.8L V8, an SM465, and a pair of LT245/75R16E retreads, maybe 3/8" tread remaining.
And a book. I found a heck of a great guide book to Utah's dirt roads, I've ordered my own copy.
I have the fabrication skills to build a buggy that would need to be trailered, but not the budget nor the driving skill.
I've never wanted to go fast when off-pavement, I like crawling. I prefer rocks, not mud.
So for now the plan is a NP241 and a D30HP from a Cherokee, with 2.73:1 gears and an Aussie.
But right now I'm just trying to get tit to the Cache valley Cruise-In on July 4th. Just to show that I can do LSx swaps for cheap. I need paying customers, and I'm cheaper than any pro shop, by far.
The '83 RX-7 I'm also showing will prove how far I can go. Here's a link to one of my build threads of it: http://www.rx7club.com/build-threads-293/83-50-mpg-big-brakes-more-1072610/
And I just started a new group on FB; Cache Jeeps, 'maros, and LSx V8s. You're all invited to join.

After I remove the 3" drop blocks and install a new pair of Moog 5406 springs up front, plus new front tires, I'm hoping to go explore the dirt roads around old silver or copper mines, see how far I can go with 2WD, a Traction-Lock, a Hi-Lift, and a pair of come-alongs. Plus a shovel, water jugs, gas cans, and all the safety stuff.
My first run will be Hardware Ranch road to Bear Lake.

Welcome, the road from Hardware to Bear Lake isn't too bad, Accidentally found it one year when I was supposed to be deer hunting. ;) The Shakes at LaBeau's were a great way to end the day anyway.

Dirt roads and old mines is about all I've been doing for the past year. 2WD will get you most places if the weather is good, but you'll miss having a low range. What book are you reading?

And I'm with Benjy, what's a "cheap" LS swap?

When I did my LS swap I did everything I could myself and shopped smart for what I could not. I saved where I could but spent where I needed to and it was still north of 5k when all was said and done, this includes motor, trans, t-cases, and all the other items needed..........P.S. Don't tell the wife, I don't think she would be very impressed if she knew the actual cost :D
