Here you go:

This transmission is identical to the 700R/4L60 except for its electronic controls. Made in two versions by GM, both use a reluctor ring for shifting points.

Version #1 is the same as 700R4 but uses a reluctor ring.

Version #2 is found in 97' and newer vehicles and has a removable bellhousing. This transmission no longer has the square bolt pattern on the output side, has a hex one similar to the TH400, it is 21-7/8" long and comes in a 2wd and 4wd version. A new output shaft is required when adapting these transmissions. ....

How is that for starts... ;)

The 4500 will be stonger but the auto will be strong enough. If it was me I would want the auto (I run a manual and often wish I had installed an auto) I am not sure but the 4500 should bring enough cash to pay for the auto( a lot more than 550 but there will be other costs). One other thing, personally I have never ever missed having an overdrive. For a manual I would not want to give up drivshaft length and add more weight running a 4500. A 420 or 465 would be plenty and unless you have one of the rare chevy 4500s with the granny first, lower gears.

True. the Auto tranny is already mated to the engine and will bolt to the atlas i plan on running. I do still like the idea of beign able to shift to 4LO but start in 3rd or 2nd gear depending on the situation as opposed to reving through the gears before the auto shifts.

just get a manual valve body and you can start in the gear of your choice with the auto...I vote auto simply cause they are more forgiving on parts...;)

Never heard of the manual valve body. Do you just run it into the dash and then shift like a manual ? Also do you think this tranny will hold up to 36's. Im already set up for a manual so do you still thihk auto. I guess if more thean anything it would be nice to be auto to absorbe driveline shock I'm sure i would get dumping the clutch. Damn choices...

no, the valve body goes inside the tranny...if you pull the pan then you will see the bottom side of the vavle body...there are different types of valve bodies...you can get full manual or semi manual...full manual it is then like a regular manual...you put it in gear and it wont shift to any other gear...semi manual you can shift to specific gears but you can also have it shift like an auto...the 4L60e can be made to hold up to pretty large tires...Brandon (sukaB) is running a 700R4 with 38s and he is anything but nice to his rig...maybe he can chime in when he gets back from UROC and give his $.02:D

any idea what the semi manual body would cost and how hard it would be to adapt to a jeep ? does it need a special shifter or just a BM shifter thing ? It looks like im goin gto sell the NV4500 back to the yard i got it from and use the money to cove rthis and maybe the new radiator. Thanks

smart thinking...call and talk to art carr or tci they know their stuff...the manual valve bodies aren;t too bad, I would say a couple bills (around $250 prolly) you can sometimes find them on ebay for pretty cheap...it depends on if you go with a reverse valve body or a standard...some shifters can switch some cant and are designed for reverse or standard...the standard go P-R-N-D-2-1 I believe and the reverse go P-R-N-1-2-D, the reverse make it so you can slap it from 1 to N easily...If you ahve the money I would suggest an art carr shifter...they are the best but you pay for it...

for the radiator I would go with a Griffin or Howe...both are aluminum and both are pretty inexpensive...and you can get whatever size you need...

EDIT: any shifter will work with the reverse but the pattern on you shifter may be off...

also one more thing about the auto:D you cant use compression braking cause they wont allow you too but art carr and tci have a solution...when you order the valve body be sure to get one that allows it and it will be like driving a stick with the benefits of an auto;)

well yes I do...I just know this stuff cause I am doing the same thing right now but on a TH350...I was contemplating using the 700 but decided on the 350...

Sorry been out awhile and takes me a bit to get back up to speed.
Yes I have a 5.7 Vortec with 700R4--atlas II.
My tranny has a reverse pattern manual valve body with Art Carr shifter and I beat the livin piss out of it...

I do not build these tranny's on my own but i like it and havent had any probs as far as the tranny goes...
We recently switched company's of tranny rebuilders and installers for Anarchy transmissions due to the fact that our tranny company was not performing very well and had a terrible track record with reliability and standing behind their work....
We left J&G
We know use Chick...Spendy but no ghetto fab'n
