AC issues

This probably belongs in the tow rig section but more people will see it here.....

I hate to finally admit it but my trusty tow rig of 5 years finally had its first issue.... 2004 QCLB Dodge 3500

The AC will blow cold and hard out of the driver vents and soft and warm out of the passenger ones, and on a possibly unrelated note after running the AC full bore for an hour or so it stops working until I turn the AC off for a few minutes then when I turn it back on it works great (almost like it had to thaw out). I have never dabbled in the workings of the AC system if its a simple repair I wouldnt mind tackling it myself but if its a job better left to a profeesional I am willing to pay the piper on this one

any insight is very appreciated

I would guess a jacked up blend door causing the passenger side issue.

As for the AC quitting, when it does this is the compressor clutch still engaged? Are the lines under hood frosty? Does the cabin blower stop or does it just stop cooling?

Wonder if one of the "zone control" solenoids are wigging out. Without dual climate control its odd, and the fact that air is still coming out at a different temp is more odd. You would think all the air coming out would be the same temp. Wonder if it has two blower motors that draw in from different sources

I havent checked into it much yet... I have noticed that I dont get the puddle of water under my truck from the condensation like I used to.... The blower seems like its blowing really hard and making lots of noise but like its not making it to the vents...

Does the blend door itself break? or the motor that actuates it?

I'm betting you are slightly low on R-134a and possibly a broken recirculation door. Check the refrigerant level before you do anything else.

If its full and judging by the frigid cold air I get so0metimes I am going to guess that is, whats the next step after confirming the freon is at the proper level

Get on the dodge forums. My buddy with about the same year had this happen in his 2500 - sounded like a somewhat common problem. He said it was a nightmare to get the whole dash apart...

nope just been driving it, I have a few customer builds going on right now and I sold my house so I havent had the time to investigate. Once we move into the new house Ill probably tear into.... Or just buy a new truck!

I really want to find someone to take this on as a side job.....

My 04 dodge is doing the same thing. .......other forums say it's the blend door for the warm air on the passenger side. I don't know if it is causing the rest of my problems

Happened to my pile of Dodge. I got into it a ways and put it back together to take to dealer. Lots of shit to break in there. I let them break it but it cost me quite a bit.

My drivers seat had broken just the week before.... It'll take a lot to get me to buy Dodge again due to that pile of shit
