Accounting software?

So I've started a couple little small businesses on the side and I'm going to have to deal with the accounting and finances at some point. I hate accounting. I loathed it in college so bad that I was often tempted to slit my wrists with shards from one of Brett's broken water bongs just to avoid going. I know a previous company I worked for used Peachtree with some success, and I know there is Quicken and Quick books....

What have you guys used? I need to do all of the finances, figuring out quarterly tax payments, paying employees and employee withholding, making purchases, keeping track of sales and other financial tom foolery.

The wife uses quickbooks for her company, mostly because she found that the accountants find it as the "standard" more than the others. She used the micorosoft one as well and said it was a little bit easier to figure out.

we all know you like "cheap and easy" and you can do everything with quickie.

there are online tutorials, and you can also do like I did and use the custom-fit program through your local college to pay for part of an in-office tutors, they can walk you through everything you need to know in a few hours available for small business.

Quickbooks is probably your best bet. I know of a multi-million dollar company that runs all off of Quickbooks ;)

Quickbooks is what I've used in the past for businesses, and I use Quicken for home stuff. Both are simple and take the headache out of most of the quarterly stuff. If you want more flexibility, MYOB is really slick but much more complex.

I noticed the other day that you are the photographer of record for the "Climb" DVD. Good job! I've always liked that cover.

Quicken for the past 5 years, just breaking into my Quickbooks Pro 2008 software that I bought the first of the year.

From one small business owner to the next... bookwork is a PITA, stay on top of it. My best move was switching to a paid accountant, literally cut my book work in half for a completely sane fee. If your doing payroll, look into a payroll company, your obviously paying a convenience fee, but in the case of small business and few employees, it can be money well spent.

I'll have to talk to you about your accountant then. I've always thought a good accountant probably pays for themselves.

You need an accountant for sure. But simple invoicing and receipts should be handled by you. Maximize your accountants time by letting them focus on the big issues.

Peachtree can be a better solution for more complex accounting, but it's tough to beat the ease and convenience of Quickbooks. Another big plus is it feeds right into Turbo Tax.
