Adjustable pressure switch......

Would it matter if I used an adjustable fuel or oil pressure switch in an on board air system? Fuel, oil, air.......?

I want to run a small air compressor to air up my tires and just have it shut off at the right pressure. Kind of taking out the guess work.

JEGS has both adjustable fuel and oil pressure switches.

What does RME think?

Go get a pressure switch for a regular air compressor. You know one for your shop. They are like $35.Most are adjustable. And are made for the pressure.I am don't see them handling the higher pressure.
Nevermind.Thought you were talking about for OBA.

Are you talking about putting it in line with the airhose then shutting off at say 35psi?

I'm sorry, yes I talking OBA and yes I would like it to shut off at 35psi.

You might see a difference in pressure across the valve core. Get an adjustable Hobbs switch as pictured.

I predect this won't work. Source pressure is not equal to tire pressure. Meaning even if your tank was regulated at 35 psi, you would not get 35 psi in your tires.

And even if you did, with a 35 psi source, it would take forever to air up the tires. You think an ARB compressor is slow.... ;) Watch a gauge, I bet the ARB compressor runs around 50 psi with a 1/4" air hose.

I have to agree with wayne on this.On my last jeep I ran a york with 1/4" fittings.I then switched to 3/8 fittings. The difference was alot.It filled the tires way faster and really helped when setting a bead.

This would work if you were running two valve stems.

One for filling, and the second one with the pressure switch attached.

That way you can have 80psi in the hose filling the tires, and the switch would shut down at the wanted pressure of 35psi when tire is aired up.

What has been said about the dual valve stems, source not being equal to the tire, etc. is correct. I would get something like this:

I have one and it works quite well.

This is what I was thinking; I was going to run a small air pump (ford/cadillac) and put this pressure switch in-line. My theory (strictly mine) was that as the tire aired up, once it hit 35# the pump would shut off. Sort of the 'tire' being the tank.

Again, this was just an idea, and I'm figuring it won't work.

I appreciate the input.

Besides, isn't what this sport is all about? Coming up with (stupid) ideas?
