Advice on Tire Size

I am putting an 3" OME lift on my FJ62 and want to increase the wheels from the stock size of 15" to 16" and want to put bigger tires on. I am thinking of the Nitto Terra Grappler AT, but it's the SIZE that I'm having a hard time deciding on. Originally I thought I would put 33's on but I was wondering what others were running on their rigs and what some pro's and con's are. What about 35's? Any advice would help. I also have a 350 engine in it too.

Thanks,

Jason

Good question, good place to ask it. Smart of you to give it some thought.

What are the weak links on your rig? What size of tire will your gearing and power tolerate? Guessing that with a 350 that you'll have plenty of power for the street whether you go 33 or 35. What about trail gearing? What is the biggest tire that folks run on your rig (with your axles) that doesn't break stuff? What size do others run that do the same trails that you do? Will 35's fit with the 3" lift?

Why are you going from 15 to 16" rims if you are only looking at 33 or 35" tires? Are you going metric sizes?

If it can handle it, and you have enough clearance, go 35's.

3" lift on a 62... Hmmmm. That's pushing it for 35's and fender clearance, in the back mostly-- if I have my Toyota's right. I'm sure Kurt will catch wind of this soon enough.. but in the meantime, let's ponder. :D

16" rims will get you into lots of truck tires... the axles should behave if your'e not beating on them too hard... and I'm guessing you've got 4.10's, which act more like 3.73's with the new bigger tires... so you'll still be ok for a DD....

I'd say work the numbers on 4lo.com's calculators and see if they make you happy (equivalent gear ratios, cruising rpm's, all that). And if so, rock the 35's if they fit.

315's are sometimes cheaper, and not much smaller.

YMMV
