Quick people. does this mean AF canyon is closed to recreational uses right now?

Funding Lapse
Due to the lapse in agency funding, the sale of all types of permits (i.e., recreation, firewood, forest products, mineral materials for example) are suspended, recreation.gov reservations are suspended, and all federally owned recreation sites are closed. All offices are closed. These services will be available once funding is restored.
Law enforcement, fire suppression, and other essential services will continue without interruption.
This web site will remain available for public safety announcements and updates such as for wildfire, floods, and so forth. We will attempt to make timely updates about public health and safety on these web pages as appropriate. We sincerely regret this inconvenience.

We were going to ride it... but this sounds really lame!

I called the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache Forest service supervisor and they (as in the office) are closed.... this sucks!

The whole parks thing is what baffles me about the shutdown, AF charges $ to gain admittance, larger parks charge even more. Leave it up to the government to be so inefficient that $ collected at admittance is not enough to cover operations. Sell off National parks to local states, if big brother can't handle watching us give it to little brother and let them do something. :spork:

It's not baffling at all. Obama wants it to hurt the people so we get mad at the Republicans and force them to give in. What nobody seems to want to talk about, both sides refuse to give in.

So I got word that the gate is closed and no one is manning it, but as long as you don't pry open the doors to use the facilities or something stupid that it's good to go.

Also a second person says that they've ran trails up AF but the gate was closed and no one was at home.

Just to be clear. none of these sources are in the Government so take what I say with a grain of salt....

I guess we are going to ride mueller park... I don't want to drive an hour to be turned away or a big fat ticket...

The NPS has been weaponized by this administration. All one has to do is open one's eyes to what has happened in the past few weeks:

Efforts to keep elderly men out of WWII Memorial
Elderly visitors to Yellowstone turned away at gunpoint
Elderly people kicked out if their homes that were on Fed land
Rangers instructed to "make things as difficult as possible"
1100 square miles of ocean off the coast of FL closed because the Fed owns that too... the effing ocean

Time to wake up and let go of the "they're better than the states" narrative of land management. The Fed is not your friend and I can guaranty you that if things went really far south, these lands will be sold to the Chinese for drilling and mineral extraction. When it happens, I will start an "I told you so" thread here in RME.

I vote civil disobedience and to proceed BAU, I think being asked to leave at gunpoint is low and absurd.
