We crossed the river 15 feet up from the washout at 6:03 PM yesterday, made it up to the Mineral Basin sign and came back down. It is a very fun trail.

Whoa! Really dude? Thanks for tearing things up, going off trail, giving ammo to groups who want to close the trails and generally making things worse for everyone.
Did you ever stop to think that the big "ROAD CLOSED" sign about 25 yards down from the washout might have been there for a reason?

Mineral Basin is Closed!!!

what a way to take responsibility for your actions, that's right just deny that what you did could have done any damage but apologize anyhow to please the angry hordes.. Keep paddling that canoe up the river.

I thought we are here to have fun and promote education on preserving our wildlands? By lashing out and just being a dick to this guy does not help our cause esp. when it seem like he just got educated about what he did and seems apologetic. This is not the RME I remember and joined.

I can see your viewpoint..and normally if someone became educated and were apologetic about what they had done I would be all 'its cool man'. unfortunately he has failed to learn that driving off the trail is tearing things up

This is a trip notice

Not here for bashing as far as the Canyon it self being closed, I was not aware of this. Maybe we could turn this into camping/repair trail thread. What needs to be done Bear lets get this reopened ???

Your right he said that in post #5 and in post #7 it was explained that going off trail is tearing things up, he probally thought that he didn't leave ruts, spin tires, or throw mud and that is what "tearing up the trail" to him meant. And your wrong we are obviously not all winners. All I am saying is he tried to apoligize and he was further educated and still people are trying to jump on him like a hooker on a $2 food stamp. Don't get me wrong he f'ed up and there is no justifying it, but give the guy a chance to correct himself, and pass his new found knowledge to other wheelers!

I just called the Forest service

Engineers are going to evaluate repairs, the Canyon is not closed until the wasahouts. I highly doubt going around the washout is going to hurt anything as they will need heavy equipment to repair the road. So get off this guys ass and lets volunteer to help if we can.

You're right.... we should understand that "Road Closed" doesn't always apply to the special members of the Super Adventure Club and all the signs posted all over the canyon instructing you to stay on roads and trails become null-void when there's barricade. My bad.

There you go picking out certain things in what I said, things that make you feel better. Tell you what why don't you go read again what I wrote and this time try to ingest everything not just what you want.

K, so instead of this becoming another bitching thread, why don't we turn this into a positive?

Yes, driving around the washout is a bad thing. You can see the visible damage in the thread I started yesterday about the trail being closed. Driving on grass or over trees is a bad thing. The ground around the washout is so soft from the moisture that any vehicle driving around it is causing more damage, intentionally or not.

Personally, the road closed sign would tell me to turn around, not lets find another way, unfortunately that is not the way most people think.

I will post updates to the trail repair in the other thread so that this can be kept organized.

Don't assume you know me or even think I said it was OK to break the rules. Do you know what a trackhoe is???? Well that is what it will take to repair the road so I serioiusly doubt any tire track are going to be visible after a trackhoe has been brought in.I njever said it was OK to go around a road closed sign so please don't assume anything.
