Air compressors

Hey guys. A buddy and I are looking into a budget friendly air compressor. We don't do very much mechanic work with air tools but will do some but it'll mainly be for his detailing gig he wants to do on the side. We don't want too big since space is a bit limited but don't want something so small that the compressor will be running the whole time. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Whatever one you choose, make sure it's oil-lubricated. If it's an oilless setup, it will invariably be much louder when running than a oiled one.

What will you be using the air for? The tools you need to run will dictate how much compressor you need.

If you mean using an air buffer they need a lot of air. Takes a beefy compressor to keep one running. Some of them need a real shop compressor. But it depends on exactly which tools you want to use. The only one I have ever used was pretty powerful and took literally like 15 cm. It was on a 3 cylinder compressor the size of a v8 motor. I have seen more hobby oriented ones that say they only need 4 cfm.

Just my opinion, but unless you have a need for a large, industrial compressor for other things, I would not go with air tools for buffers, die grinders, drills, etc. If you need it anyway, all the better, but those tools use SO much air, you really need a different class of compressor if you are running them.
