Air Shocks or Coilovers

I know there are plenty of threads about which is better but it seems like everyone has their own opinions and they are better for different situations? If I am putting them on my daily driver 04 wrangler unnlimited which would be better? I do some towing and I drive it everyday but it will also be my dedicated crawler. I will be putting 60's under it soon and it would probably be better to do everything at once if its affordable enough. So let me know which would be better and why? And which would be worse and why?

Ha. I was thinking for sure you would be the first to respond and I knew you'd be honest. I'm just going to keep it and build it and make it comfortable too since it's my daily driver. I'll probably retire it to be my crawler in the next year. But for now I need help and info. You just did coilovers so what say ye goat?

IMO, Coilovers. But they are much more expensive than air shocks. But also more tunable. Keep in mind too, that air shocks have weight limits. A 2" Fox airshock is right at the max weight (500# per shock max) in a Wrangler. And if you are going to be towing with it, you ill for sure over load it. An over loaded air shock will blow the seals.

Is it very common to run air shocks in the front and coilovers in the rear? Towing wouldn't overload the front right? Just the rear cause that's where the extra weight is?

I would say coil-overs...If you happen to blow an air shock running down the highway at 65mph, it's game over but with coil-overs you still have springs.

I would recommend Coilovers if you going to drive it on the street. I run fox air shox, but its off-road only. You will have to build or buy some hoops or towers to bolt your coilovers, the stock spring platforms will not work.

My advice is based on years of success and failures in life and not meant to be taken as an insult. You do seem to be all over the place with your LJ. So much so, I've even considered buying it at one point-_-

Take the money you'll spend on airshocks or coilovers and buy a starter worktruck or towrig to use while your jeep is down. You'll be far better served buying something that will help you earn a living than building a jeep loaded with a series of compromises attempting to wear too many hats.

Once you have that down, buy coilovers.

I would agree with GOAT. I see way to many people spend a lot of money on their rigs doing compromises just to get by. If I was to add my two cents worth, I would say, leave the Jeep the way it is, buy the work truck/Tow rig and when you don't have to drive the Jeep everyday, build it the way you want with either shock. But, if you just want to spend the money now, go with the coilovers. It will take some fab work to get them to fit and work right, but for the daily driver and towing, I think it is the only choice.
