i need to get some junkyard airbox that is pretty easy to make totally watertight (for a future snorkle setup). not too big - there ain't much room under my hood after i put in the york. as rectangular as possible - not jutting out everyplace. and be able to run a flat K&N filter in it. just wanted to know if any vehicle year and models come to mind before i go on my treasure hunt :D

the only problem is that it would most definitly restrict your airflow as it is intended to breathe for a 1.3 liter.

I would suggest either the ford or the YJ... My YJ box is rectangle... Only problem is my K&N is a piece of crap! I clean it regularly and use the recharger kit from K&N and it looks like someone got all purpose grease and smeared it all over it!!!

It may not be as airtight as you want it to be, most YJ's come with a tube to protect against water entering the box, but the previous owner of mine took it off. I don't have one. I found mud chunks in the bottom of my airbox. But... inside the tube after the filter it is very clean.

I had to take out my K&N and go back to paper filters because I could feel a huge difference in power and gas mileage. For example... I went down to Moab for EJS. I used 3/4 of a tank going down. Half way through I decided to buy a paper filter and see if that would make a change. Immediatly I felt a huge power increase. On the way home from Moab I used less than 1/2 a tank of gas!!! Amazing huh.

OH yeah, anyone heard of a YJ with stock gears, 4.0L and 33's getting 15 MPG???

I really want my K&N back so I am going to see if K&N will honor their million mile warranty.

grrrr... so many options! toyota, ford, or YJ. i'll just have to rummage around the yards to see what they look like. what's the best (ie. cheapest and most choices) junk yard in the area?

Go to Pic n' Pul... no other way about it, I pulled a sealed airbox off a Cadillac for use on my TBI conversion.... $5.00 can't beat that, plus you can just walk around til' you find the one you like.

I've seen yotaman's he's right it's small and rectangular. It was made for his V-6, so it should not really restrict airflow. I'm not sure how watertight it is. Check Tacomas 95 and up.
