Alternator question

I have a 85 Jeep scrambler with A/C and a serpentine belt. When I browse the alternator selections on parts websites they have no indication that it is a serpentine belt or that I have a choice between a grooved or "v" belt.

What are my options? Have any of you had to deal with this?

I was wondering if I should look at a xj alternator since it seems to fit my app better since it has a mopar fuel inj. kit? It looks like the bracketry is similar, has anyone tried to install a more current alternator in a older jeep?

Thanks for looking.

I've always substituted know years w/serpentine belts if that's what I need. Or swapped the pulleys out a couple times.

I put a newer GM alternator in my 78 Cherokee... but it already had one in it.

Having a good impact wrench is the key to successful pulley swapping, IMHO.
Jamming screw drivers in there while using a big wrench on the pulley nut doesn't really prolong the alternator's life much.

Brett,I don't think it replaced the alternator but I'll check that to be sure. The kit upgrades the system to run on a 94 and newer injection system I think the previous owner changed the belt system and alternator as well to match. I think the best would be match with anything at the parts store to make sure I cross reference everything right.

Thanks
