Another buggy project

Well, everything is finally in motion so I'll lay it out as best I can. I bought this donor rig tonight from Josh.

It's got lots of great parts that I'll be stripping off this weekend. I hate to ruin it because it has that cool Pirate's look to it and it has sentimental value to Josh and his lovely wife, but well, it's going down.

All the parts are going on this, sort of.

Kyle is cutting the back and front off of it and building the front to fit my CJ3a hood and grill. Yes, it will be a front engine car. The rear will resemble a Twisted Customs buggy.

I'm tearing the donor rig down this weekend and will use the tires, trans, steering (full hydraulic), fuel cell, air shocks, links, axles, front seats, and various odds and ends. I'm selling the 4.3 motor and the chassis. The wheels are already sold.

I bought a 5.3 Chev Gen III motor from All Truck and I ordered the 2 speed Atlas 3.8 also, and a reverse manual valve body and shifter for the 700r4 from Art Carr.

I'm on my way. wooopeeee. :D:cool::greg: Anybody have a heated shop they want to donate for the weekend????

You and Kiel should challenge each other to see who can get done with their buggy first! Kiel has a big head start but he started from scratch, so I bet you are both about equal in work to complete. What do you say??? I will throw in a free pizza to whoever wins......

Oh Jason, Kiel is so gonna get you.

My goal is to be ready for EJS, which is 2 months from now. YIKES. My advantage is I don't have to do all the work, but I am on a budget, so once that's gone, I have to finish what is left.

..... Kiel has a big head, with an even bigger vein...

Mr. Spock, I believe your translator is broken! The verbage is all wrong, but the translation seems faily close,:rofl:

I think you've got a great start Bart, I wish I had some spare time to come and help you out, but I need to get my own junk working first.
I built my buggy in about 7 months and I took a LOT of time off work to get that done, but there were times that I got nothing done for weeks waiting on others to do work for me. I took about 5 weeks to get the engine running because of the VATS problem, but once that started (the engine) and I knew I could use the engine, it started coming together pretty quick.
Did you get to hear the engine run? You can get another if its bad, but that takes time you don't have. Do they make an upgraded output shaft for the 700r4? I know that's a weak point in the th350, but I don't know about the 700r4. I wanted to use a 700r4 also, but wasn't sure it would hold up, and the extra cost for a rebuilt was too much for the budget at the time.

Thanks Chris. Nope, I didn't hear it run, but it was all still in the truck when I bought it. I just didn't want to run to Salt Lake. They ran a compression test and it all looks good. Got about 60k on it. The newer 700r has a 30 spline output on it, but I haven't pulled this one yet to check out what it has. We'll see this weekend.

 Right on Bart! I like the idea of buying a complete rig that already has the right parts in it. I'll be watching this build closely, sounds like it's going to be a perfect trail buggy. I hope you can get it done by EJS, that will be a hell of a feat!
