Ok I have gotten the motorcraft 2100 swaped onto my wifes 4.2 YJ (ugh a yj with a carb)..... Figured out my choke issues and vaccume system issues. Its up and running. Everything seems to be in good working order other than the darn thig idols at 1,000 instead of around 700 rpm. I have the idol screw adjusted all the way out. The cold air idol screw adjusted all the way out. It is a carb for a 78 ford 150 with the 302..... Im wondering if this might have somthing to do with the jetting??? Its not a major problem i would just like to be able to fine tune the carb a little better. I.e. a little lower idol.... any sugestions???

Is there a vacume port uncapped? Is the throtle plate jammed open some. With the idle screw backed off all the way the engine should die from lack of air. Mixture does not have anything to do with it. The engine is getting air when it should not.

That's what I was thinking, some kind of vacuum leak. How's the gasket between the Carb & Intake? How about between the Head and Intake?

Get one of those small propane torches, turn on the fuel (without lighting it, ofcourse) and run the thing around the base of the carb, intake, head & vacuum hoses. If the idle rises, you've found your vacuum leak.

HTH.

hmmm guess I better check for leaks.... I am only running 2 vaccume hoses now so I know its not one of them.... maybe the adaptor for the carb is leaking.... oh well its running for now so I will work on that next weekend.... thanks guys.
