Another new jeep chick!

Hey all!
I'm kinda new to the boards, but I decided to check them out because my uncles say they're way cool! I'm kinda new to the whole 4-wheeling thing too since I've only had my jeep since 7/3/03. I'm getting more and more adventurous as I go, although I don't think I'll be doing anything too scary for awhile because I can't afford to bang her up too much. ;) I'm working on getting my "purple people eater" all pimped out at the moment, so if any of you have any recommendations or cool hook-ups or ideas, let me know! (keep in mind I am a poor college student though :( )
See ya all around!

She's a '97 TJ actually. We fondly call her the purple people eater for obvious reasons. I bought from a private seller almost 2 yrs ago now. First car I've ever bought, and no my parents haven't helped me out at all unlike all my rich friends from highschool. She has a 2.5" lift, full skid plate, custom wheels, and I think just the factory rear posi... not really sure though. My uncle is the one who knows what all is in it. Unfortunately I was deprived of auto mechanic knowledge growing up so I am still trying to learn all this fun stuff, I wouldn't mind all of you helping to educate me too! I am a serious addict currently though. I've decided once I make it through nursing school I am putting all my money into her... or maybe buy a Rubicon just like her... untill then I am trying to scrape up enough money as I go to make her bigger and meaner! I'm currently working on the sound system because my car was broken into just after I got back from Moab! :mad2: (otherwise I would have enough money for a newer lift or some lockers) Gonna put 8" Rockford Fosgate subwoofers in the back add-a-trunk. Just put in a new tuffy console and a brand new pioneer premier stereo and replaced the alarm speaker..... Any ideas for anything else I can do with a smallish budget?

Question 1: Whcih are you in your profile, left middle or right?

Answer to you: if it has a 2.5 spring lift, add some 70$ spacers to make it almost 5", run some 33's and wheel it. When money comes available, look into some of the used parts in the sale section, someone a while back was advertising a set of 4.5 springs for about 250$. If you can get some sigitals of the suspension, almsot anyone here can tell you exactly what you have in a matter of seconds.

Until I traded it in I also had a TJ, so I know what does and doesnt fit, Blacksheep is another good TJ guy, theres quite a few whose all names I cant remember.

Badcop- Answer #1: I'm the one in the purple jacket toward the middle. And thanks for the info! How stable would the spacers be? My dad and uncle (who would be helping install) are pretty paranoid about stability as my uncle bought a rolled jeep for parts. I'm an awesome driver and all, don't take turns even remotely tight, so it wouldn't be me, it'd be more like if someone were to cut me off or whatnot.

I ran my TJ with the 5.5" springs and 2" spacers on 35's for a long time. Drove it from Alaska to here (towing 3000lbs worth of trailer behind it), here to Texas and back and not once had a problem with any of it.

If youd like to do it yourself I offer my garage if youd like, has all you need for a Jeep lift kit then some, hell the wife would probably lend a hand.

Thanks! That's really nice of you! :) I'll have to see what kind of funding I can put together... tuition for summer semester is coming up fast, so it might be tight for a while... :-\

Purple jacket, purple jeep, ..... you must like purple.

anyway. Welcome. It's nice to see another poor college student on here. Someday this college thing's going to pay off and I'm going to have the sweetest jeep ever!

Going higher on your jeep is a question of control arms and driveline angles. The springs and pucks aren't too big of a concern. If the arms and angles work out for you, you can go as high as you want (higher isn't always better though). Then there's steering too, you don't want to stretch that out too much either.

Oh yeah, for sound system stuff PM a guy on here named CODY. He works for ultimate electronics in the car stereo stuff, plus he's got a ton of extra stuff lying around. That and he's a super cool dude, he could hook you up with whatever you need.

Who's that kid in the background? I think I know him.

That's why they make full widths. Go with a 44 14 bolt combo and you wont have to worry about rolling or what not. :D

The purple thing is more of a coincidence really... I thought the jacket looked good on me, and the jeep... well it's unique, really.
Ok I think I understood most of what you were saying about playing with my lift... maybe... no I really think I did.
That kid behind me is a friend of a friend. At the moment we're more like acquaintances through fraternity/sorority... I think his name is Danny? I'm kinda drawing a blank.
Also, thanks for the tip on the sound system thing! I was looking at buying some JL subs, but I found out my lil' bro (aka booger) had a couple of 8" Rockford Fosgate subs just sitting in his closet, unopened! I was soooo excited! The only thing I need now is an amp and some way to install them so they are less likely to get stolen... Cody you say.... -_-

Badcop-- I think my uncle has a whole bunch of TJ parts hanging around his house... he might have a couple... I sure hope so! That'd be even more exciting! And then maybe I could learn how to put them in myself... :D
Wow! You guys are awesome! I am too excited to study anymore... that could be a very bad thing :guilty:
