Rock crawling is definitely not a cheap sport (especially once you get a tow rig and trailer).

That being said, Nick's build is pretty low cost. I'm sure it cost more than a stock sami, but all he's bought is the 4runner, tubing, tires (used), shocks (used), wheels (probably used), and dual case adapter.

So, even though it costs more than a stock sami, I'll bet it still turns out cheaper than a built full-bodied sami.

very true, about the only thing i have bought new is the dual case adapter, seats, and some brackets. If you watch ksl and pirate4x4 like a hawk. you can find some good deals.

but like steve said, it is not a cheap sport, at all! knowing people and being able to do trade work whenever you can, and sell the parts you are not using all can help. I really appreciate all the feed back. it makes me stay that much more focused on getting it done.

parts I need are full hydro steering stuff, and a third member, I might try and cut the frame a little more to fit a high pinion. I really think it might be worth it. if not ill just run a low pinion and save my money until I can afford a diamond axle with a 9.5 ring and fj80 outers :D

This rig is turning out so well. You're never going to want to build your other buggy. If you do build your lexus buggy, you'll have to sell me this one when the lexus is done ;)

actually the other one is sold. a guy bought it and its already built. But the lexus motor will be going into this buggy. I want to get this build done and have fun with it first. Then when I have the motor built where i want it with the trans behind it and the atlas. then I will put it in.

Sweet man, I figured this buggy was going to be cooler than that one anyway.

yeah, come down any time. I have only been in St. George for a year now and its so good here It is going to be very hard to convince me to go anywhere else. even Moab. Are you coming for the Crawlfest?

mocked up the rear anti-rock and the front coil-over mounts. I am going to need a lot of bracing attached to the front shock mounts. Then I went up to Impulse offroad and cut out some caps for the shock mounts. I am not sure about the orientation of the ant-rock arms at ride hight, but i am going to put them fairly flat and see how it does, there is plenty of room for adjustability.

I have not decided if I want to do a rear mount radiator or if I should try and do a small race style one up front. If i did one up front It would have to be able to fit a space 18 " tall and 22" wide. I have found them for racing hondas and such. but they are expensive. If i mounted it in the rear I could use a normal size radiator and some heavy duty electric fans. it would be cheaper but not easier. Also i dont like the idea of hot antifreez blasting me in the back of the head if it ever blew up.

i say rear mount because there is nothing crappier than a small radiator over heating on the trail or anywhere else, but yes radiator fluid exloiding all over you would suck, been there dosent taste good

I ran an 19x22 with a 4.3, and with a Taurus fan had no overheating issues. That was the core size, so it was a bit larger than that with the tanks.

Mine was a Speedway, but very similar to this one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-380324/

If you can fit one, you'll be happier with a front-mount in the end. It'll cool better at speed. Things are tighter up there, but tidier in the end....plus it leaves you more room for storage and stuff in the back.

Edit: I just noticed that 19.5x22 is INCLUDING the tanks on this one. :)

I Lean...that is perfect! Thank you. I am going to go with that for sure. The other ones I had been looking at were twice the cost. And I was actually planning on running a Taurus fan, so I am glad to know that it will fit on that radiator. Also if it kept your 4.3 cool it shouldn’t have any problems keeping the little hamsters cool as well.

I did have to shorten the shroud of the Taurus fan, I just cut the long side, cut a chunk out, and overlapped the two sections to melt them back together on both sides. I did it again on the fan I'll be using for my Willys:

Also, I think I gave you the wrong part number...this one should have the ports in the right place. (from memory, so it's your job to make sure which one you need :p) http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-380424/

thanks again, yeah it was the second part number that would be the one I need. I am stocked now that I can keep it up front for not to much money. :D
