There are a ton of great trails in the area most are easy but very scenic.

A short drive North up Bloomington canyon to Bloomington lake then over to the Paris ice caves (bring flashlights ) is a good one. You can also head down Cub River and end up in the North end of Cache Valley if you choose. There are a few spots where you will definatly need to use 4wd on this route. We usually go back home that way after a day at the lake whether it be Bear Lake or Bloomington Lake. That is one of my all time favorite trails mostly because I grew up in the area and know it very well :D

Depending on where your coming from you could also do some rock crawling on the Providence Canyon to Logan Peak trail. It can connect onto highway 89 in Logan Canyon which will take you right to Bear Lake...

You can also come down into the preston/birch creek side of bloomington on the the german dugway trail. That one is pretty rocky, and fun.

You can also go from Temple Fork to get to OE's grave. A good one but not difficult at all is to turn at Bear Lake Summit and head south down past slide out canyon. The road is right at the top and comming from Bear Lake turns south. It's long, but goes past Fort Goring (a bit off the beaten path and by Bug lake) and comes out by Hardware Ranch. Then you can head down Blacksmith Fork Canyon into Hyrum, or turn when you get to Right Hand Fork and go back up and over to the for corners alwaysxj is talking about. From there you can hit OE's grave, or Mt. Logan, or just go back to Logan Canyon and back to Bear Lake.

I don't remember it being to difficult but I've wanted to go back and see Old Ephraim's grave.

My Grandfather was keeping a sheep camp next to Frank's. He came over the next morning and helped skin it. Frank took the hide and threw it up in a barn and the moths completely destroyed it. Each of the 6" long claws he gave to his grand kids and as far as I know they have all misplaced or lost them. I used to love as a kid to here my grandfather tell the story. He had a bear skin coat and a trap that was the same size and the same type gun that was used. He went around for years telling it to Boy Scouts, church groups, family outings etc.

The bear was actually killed about 2-3 blocks up from the monument...look for the aspens with different names carved, many which are quite old. If you see the one that says FS (my grandfather) it is around 70 years old.
