Any feedback on the new General Grabber MT's?

I'm looking at new tires in the 35" flavor, and the new General's are about the same price as the BFG MT KM2's.

Any feedback on these? I like that the KM2's seem to be quieter on the street than my MTR's, but realize road noise is inherent to a MT tire.

Does anyone have any experience with these, or direct comparison to a KM2?

The Grabbers have a super soft compound. A brand new set has been sitting in Robby's shop next his Trepadors, it was noticed that the Grabbers are softer than the Treps!

I can only imagine that that compound could bring the suck.. Replacing a set of tires after 15k miles. I have no real world info on noise/wear/handling compared to another tire however..

Pssst... If you want to go feel the soft compound head over to Kurt's...

I don't know what feeling it would do for me.

15k miles? I would be stoked about that. I'm at 13k on my MTR's, but 2 of them are already done and replaced with another mostly worn tire. So, 12-14k was the lifespan of an MTR on my rig, depending upon location. What are MTR's supposed to get? 30k? So if the General's are more like 15k, does that mean I would only get 6-7k out of them? That's a deal breaker. That's barely a year of wheelin.

15k is a guesstimate. But really, they are ridiculously soft. Think damn near the compound of a stickie comp tire. I can just see pavement tearing them up really fast. How are your tires only lasting half of their expectancy if you drive the Mitsu around? That seems quite crappy... I will say that my $300 set of 4 no-name tires have barely made it 10k.. But $300 for a set of 4 new tires isn't that bad. Better than 10k on a set of expensive new tires though..

There are harder compounds out there.. like the ones at SEMA on the truck in front of the doors-- muuuuuch harder. The ones I squished at the Lucas shindig, the production ones, are also harder.

You are referring to those 37" take-offs, or no?

General claims they're supposed to last 30-40K.

Bryson has a set on his Dodge, so we'll see. :)

I've heard that there are two versions of the new Generals. A comp compound and a regular. I don't recall the source.

I told you to buy these yesterday. Quieter than the KM2.

I have had nothing but great feedback from all my customers. The compound "feels" soft, but from what I have seen from the DOT compound is that they hold up really well.

just my opinion.

I attribute it to a few things

Of the 13k miles, probably 6k of those are offroad miles aired down to 12-15 psi or so. Anther 10 trips up Pritchett, 10 through BFE and dozens through other trails etc.

Add into that the fact that I have spools/lockers that eat up tread when on road and really, I'm not sure I should be that disappointed. If 50% of a tire's total mileage is off road and aired down, I can't rightfully expect to get the full rated mileage out of them. I don't want stickies though, because I do enough road mileage that I would kill them in a year.

I say you get them, and if they suck balls throw them through the front window of 4Wheel Parts with a hate letter addressed to Bear.. Kinda like that old Discount Tire commercial.

Really though, I think you should give them a try.

I'm running them on my K5 (bought them from Bryson)and I get absolutly no noise on asphalt. I had them out on the snakes last weekend and they hooked up alot better than the old Big O XT's I had and that was at full pressure, I'll report back after my Moab trip next week.

What size wheels are you running Cody? I have a set of 4, 315/75/16 BFG KM2's that I will need to sell pretty soon here. They are used, have about 70% tread or so.

I need new wheels as well.

I can get a good deal on some 35 x 12.5 r 17 grabbers but at this point it doesn't look like it's a good enough deal to make up for the more expensive 17" wheels.

Hey guys!
I just returned from running the Rubicon with the 37" Grabbers.....
I was a little nervous getting rid of my Toyo's because they run awesome in Moab! But I threw on the Grabbers anyway and I loved them on the Rubicon...5000 miles so far on them and are not much louder than the Toyo's! Have yet to hit Moab with them...but soon. Really soon....

I'm not so sure about the idea of your return policy Beardy.

I am thinking hard about throwing a set of these on my scout, some day, at the end of eternity when I might be done.
