Any vets in the house??

My boxer ate a steak bone whole tonight.... It wasn't a huge bone, but I am just worried that he won't be able to get it out if you know what I mean, or if it will cause any damage inside. He has a habit of inhaling anything like steak fat or anything like that. Probably because he thinks the other dog will get it...

Anyone know? It was probably maybe 2-3 inches long, and didn't appear to have any pointy ends on it except for on the end (but didn't notice anything too bad)

Anyway, let me know!!

My vet showed me a bunch of e-rays last time i was in of things dogs had eaten.

A bunch of golf balls was one of them. I would just keep a good eye on it, watch for the stomach swelling. It may require x-rays or surgery if the body cant handle it.

I have 2 Jack Russel's Between the male (Trencher) and Bella (Female) They have eaten some pretty bad things over the years. About 9 months ago she at an entire rib bone whole (baby back) She was fine. YMMV

I'm not a vet or a MD but I have pulled plenty of gross half chewed meat and bones out of peoples throats. If the pup is swallowing his saliva as opposed to drooling everywhere and wreching it has probably passed into the stomach. Things should work their way out from there. Keep an eye on him, if he is having bowl movements he is probably fine. If he has diarrhea for and is not passing anything solid he may be obstructed and I'd take him to the Vet.

Well, by no means would I ever agree that if something went down without a problem it will pass on through. I have removed a wide range of items from dogs intestines and stomach that they swallowed with out any trouble.

Chewed up tennis balls being most common, but ranges from pinecones to baby bottle nipples to stuffed toys and the very rare bones.

The advantage to a bone is that it will soften in the stomach, and eventually digest. However, if it happens to try to pass while still hard, it may very well obstruct either at the outflow of the stomach or anywhere along the intestinal tract.

Have the dog seen if vomits or acts painful.
