I'm looking into buying a 1987 Loyale. I'll drive it this summer but may want to build it mildly for some wheelin fun in the fall. you can order a 6" lift kit for them. any 'buru fans out there?

I always thought it would be fun to have a Scooby powered crawler!

Is that your car? I installed a gt35R kit on a friends 07 STI. It turned out pretty decent, but I can't stand to work on those engines. That boxer engine was a pain to work around.

I have an imported Evo VI and would never dare take it out rally racing. But if I had the disposable cash to rally a new car I would do it in a heartbeat!

There were a couple guys that wheeled a 80's suburu wagon at the Hammers this year. They solid axle swapped it and it rode on 37 inch trepadors. The thread is on POR with the KOH

Never at the level I now see as wheeling.

However, around my high school year family had an '84 Sub wagoon. Had low range, adjustable height suspension. We used it as our hunting rig for a number of years on some fair rough dirt roads and trails. Did very well in snow, had about 12" ground clarence. Was pretty fun.

In college I drove a '78 Brat. Mod dirt roads is the worst I had the chance to take it on.

I like the idea of a SAS Brat! That would be too cool!

My brother did the light truck tire and wheel conversion in his garage. I was impressed. No lift and decent sized tires and it seemed to help the ratio out for better highway speeds.

Stranger, My buddy has an imported evo IV RHD that you'd like.

I used to own an 84 GL Wagon with the limited slip rear. It was a blast to drive and was tough! I had it in water once to above the hood and it kept going. I jumped it once about 4 feet off the ground, and it kept on going. I drove it to Colorado, Utah, California and Arizona on numerous snowboarding trips sometimes in a foot of snow on the highways and it kept going. It never let me down and was THE funnest car I ever owned. It was beat up and ungly when I sold it but I wish I still had it.

My brother hit a deer, I pulled the AWD drivetrain out and put it under my tube frame, not completed yet.

Scooby's rock :greg:

My first 4x4 was an 88 2 door hatchback (H-backs kept the early 80's body style much later into the 80's). I had a 2" lift on it, with a roof rack with handy man jack, all season tires, tow hooks and some fender trimming for clearance in the rocks. Me and a buddy would go wheelin all the time on the old logging roads around here, and his actually had an ARB bull bar (jealous!) with a winch!

They DO NOT flex, but you just have to adapt to that and pick different lines. There was a dude on Pirate that had a nice mild build under expedition vehicles (I'll try and find the link) Also check out www.hatchpatrol.com :D

I don't care for the Loyales pesonally. They have more power, but the engines (EA82) don't live up the EA81's in the early models. Avoid the automatics they don't get near the power or the milage the 5 speeds do 21mpg vs. near 30mpg. Also the later Loyales don't have a low range which is a must for anything worse than a gravel road :-\

That Hatch Patrol site is AWESOME! Those lifted Justy's are sweet!

They are pretty cool... I really miss mine it looked just like the light blue one in the "gallery" aside from the roof lights and mine was red.

I always thought it was too tall geared even in low, but recently I found a company that makes 4:1 crawler gears for them :greg:

in the early 90's when I was still young enough to motorcross I used to make a couple laps around the mx track with an old subaru.. tons of air, and tons of fun.

I used to take my stock 93 Impreza up trails that it never should have gone up and never had a problem (well except some body damage and hitting a rock on the belly causing the floor to come up almost 12 inches :) ) it was a great car.. moved up to a forester in 03 it hasn't seen as much off road action though

I saw a fairly large Brat out on Hell's Revenge on Saturday. Didn't get a very close look at it, but it was enough to make me do a double take.

the one I'm looking at is an '87 and the interior is in pristine shape. it has all the power options, and they all still work. I'm just debating wether it will get me to boston this summer or not.
