one of the guys at work turned me on to pandora.com

pretty cool for a free radio site. pretty clever system, type in the name of an artist you are fond of and it plays a bunch of related music. if you dont like a song you can end it and it wont play it again.

I've been using Pandora for a while I am fairly impressed with all the music it has :)

Its come along way since I started using it a couple years ago. Back then it was notorious for playing music that was completely out side of the 'genome' of the band/song you had selected. They have really worked on it though, I use it all the time.

Big Media is just not getting the hint: People don't want crappy music that costs lots of money. I can't think of the last thing I heard on the radio that I liked... oh wait-- it's a toss up between "4 Minutes" by Justin Timberlake/Madonna, and "I Kissed a Girl" by the luscious Katy Perry, and look at just how awesome THOSE two picks are.

Screw the radio, and screw Sound Exchange for f'ing up a good thing. There were lots of bands on Pandora I'd never heard of that I kind of liked.

Radiohead's last album, which I really like, was released for free, and they are making most of their money on sales of the bonus disc and touring. I'd pay money to see a band, live, and buy a shirt or something. I'd pay to download their album even! But F**K ALL if I'm paying $18 for a $8 disc at Borders or something. The business model is going to have to change, and thank God for torrents to start forcing their hands.

Wonder if they'd sell it... :greg: AdSense relating to bands/music/tour dates? Perhaps limit folks to 2 hrs of music for a couple bucks? Create a subscriber setup, charging by the amount of time folks listen. Hell, even open it up for donations... if people like something, they will support it. I bet if they changed their platform a bit it could make money.
