Anyone have experience with reverse osmosis filtration systems?

Pretty random question, but anyone have experience with reverse osmosis filtration systems for a home? We're looking at a property that is outside of city limits therefore no water mains. On top of that, well water is questionable at best, the salt content is very high in the ground water.

Most everyone that lives in this area hauls their household water from town with a big tank on a trailer. I'm curious about setting up a well with a reverse osmosis water treatment system, so we wouldn't have to haul water. It looks fairly simple, but I know nothing about what to look for, prices, quality, etc.

I've put one in my home under the kitchen sink, along with a home main water filter. I have a water softerner then the main filter then the reverse system which has small tank (5 gallon?) and 7 filters then I fill my PuR water pitcher from the spigot. My water tastes great now, Herriman has pretty hard water. I just bought off Ebay and have a family member who got the same system. Looks like this one.

I had 2 kidney stones before this system was installed and none since. I sometimes wonder if the water out here had to do with my wife's kidney failure.

I use to run a 5000 gph rowpu (reverse osmosis water purification unit) in the army... I know that they are nothing like the ones you have posted... we had to backflush them almost once a day which was a very time consuming job... They ran on very high pressure to push the water thru the membrane which your units don't do... but I am sure they make up for it somehow...

The more filters it has the better its going to be and make sure you replace them on a very regular basis... from what I was looking at the 4000 gpd unit would be my choice if I was getting on...

If you have any questions about all the acronyms I'm here for ya...

We have the bigger home depot unit that has an 11 gallon tank that works great, we even plumed it into our ice maker and water spiket on the fridge. We have had it for 3 or 4 years now.
You are probably gonna want somthing more on the industrial side though.

We use one at work it looks a lot more simple then the ones on the link. I know we order the filters off the internet because they are alot cheaper that way. You ought to find some print shops that are closing down and get on for cheap.

Greg, I deal with highend RO systems everyday in my line of work (saltwater aquariums) I stock and install 120 GPD units alot for people. we run them for aquarium top-off, ice makers, fridge water as well as a large water change containers. If you want the whole house to be RO (not a good idea as far as waste water goes) and no real reason why your whole house needs to be RO, These systems you are looking at are good. If it were me looking for the entire house, I would just run a couple of large DI canisters, these alone will bring your TDS down to almost zero but the water will be so clean that it will taste "bad". There are ALOT of units out there under 500.00 that will give you less that 10 PPM TDS. So then run a small RO for drinking, cooking, coffee, ice, etc. That clear as mud?
