I have a few projects I would like to do with some ripstop nylon. First a tarp tent that will use my dirtbike for mounting. And maybe some type of tool wrap bag to hold some tools on my bike forks. I picked up 8 yards of some a Walmart today. It's non coated but was cheap I figure if I nail it the first go round I can spray something on it to aid in waterproofing it. If I mess up I'm not out much.
I know how to sew but have never worked with anything like this. If anyone has tip or tricks lay it on me.

40 years ago we used to make our sleeping mags out of rip stop and down. My advice, do not sew by hand, double fold the the edges and use a Bernini sewing machine because we had better luck with them. We also found that if they were next to something that constantly rubbed against them they would get holes after a short amount of time which the down always found.

Making my own down bag is what got me started looking at this material. But after a friend set me up with a discount code on backcountry I can buy a 30 deg down bag for less then I can make one and it has a lifetime warranty.

Get some fray check for the edges, it's like superglue for fabric and you'll need it. Just hemming isn't enough.

I have a hot exacto knife. It takes normal exacto blades but gets hot like a soldering iron. I wounder if cutting with that would help.

I remember searing fabric edges in a candle flame for my mom when she made sleeping bags and coat from Frostline kits
