Anyone here have a CNC (or similar) cutter?

I'm looking to get a few parts cut out. It could turn in to lots more but at first, I was thinking of starting with 6 identical parts. I don't have a template yet (I will create some kind of template), but they will be ~4" round flat aluminum parts, maybe 1/8"-1/4" thick. Or can anyone suggest a good shop that won't rape me for only getting a couple parts cut? If you're interested in doing this for me, PM me a price. Thanks

You could cut them out by hand with a stencil to slide the plasma along. Do the pieces have a central hole? if so and you require machined tolerances, then you could lathe all 6 to size at the same time.

You're absolutely right, I COULD cut them out by hand if I had a plasma. However, I'm looking for cleaner cuts than a hand cut part will ever have. Not machined tolerances, but they need to look professional.

The parts will end up being a ~1" ring that's ~4" in overall size (so a big hole in the middle) but they won't be perfectly round and they'll have some mounting tabs that come off them. Not complicated parts at all. :)

This may fall into the "good shop that won't rape me for only getting a couple parts cut" catagory, but it could be a price comparison for you.

Can your sample price look like this item?

One trick I heard with them is to design your parts with little connector tabs between them. Similar to how the parts to a model car would come with the little pieces holding them together. That way you can submit 1 part and when you get it back you can break your parts free and have multiple useable parts.

It also maybe worth a call to Novak Adapters. They have two big CNC machines and may have the ability to do a one off job like that.

He does lots of one off and small production run stuff.
Great guy. Give him a call, and as cliche as it sounds, tell him I sent ya.

Thanks for the leads everyone. After actually laying out some rough dimensions I've found it will actually be a simple ring with some holes. No tabs, etc. This is what it will look like (overall diameter of 5.25"):

This is going to be used for mounting a radiator fan on a motorcycle, so nothing structural, and a lot stronger than the typical zip-tie method :D

As far as raping goes I believe it's the machine shops getting raped.
Machine shop terms are net 30 who ever came up with the term net 30 aught to be shot. Most customers these days are wanting net 45 and actually paying closer to 60 days some even longer. I don't know of to many business who don't get paid when the job is completed.
The higher cost for the fewer quantity is because of program and setup being divided out by fewer parts, seems simple enough but what some customers want these days are a 100 piece price but with a delivery of 25 a month for 4 months.
I provide quality machine parts to your specs. in a timely manner. Now I've already discussed payment with my regular customers but when being paid for side work if I ask for a case of Budweiser don't show up with a 12pk of natural light.
None of this is a reflection of Caleb or any one else on this forum just my thoughts on being raped as a machine shop owner.

I did something similiar in size for Yukon, but out of 10GA steel, for $5 each. There's had 10 holes in it. More peirces the higher the cost.... I'm not really set up to do aluminum, but I could make it out of steel. Something that small won't weigh much either way.... Shipping would probably cost more than the parts ;)

So if my google hasn't let me down, 10ga is just a tad thicker than 1/8" right? Could you possibly PM me a price for this out of steel? If they are ~$5 a piece, I'll probably do more than just 6 at a time. I think they will need to be 5.5" OD. Right now I have them scheduled with a shop here in town to be laser cut out of aluminum, but they are two weeks out.

Here is the drawing I sent the machine shop with the dimensions (Like I said above, I think the OD needs to be bumped up to 5.5").

Let me know, thanks Wayne.

Yeah, .134 +/-.010 I think is industry standard...
I'd need an actual .dxf (or dwg, etc) of the file to figure out exactly the cost (it's based on cut time as well as material and # of pierces), but I'd say right around $4.50'ish... What your wanting is real close to the other. Their's were roughly the same OD..
If you want to email me the file - screen name @msn.com If you need me to, I can sign an agreement stating I will only make these parts for you and not for anyone else or my own use.

Ninja edit: Industry considers 11GA as 1/8", but it's more like .119 +/- .010
