I bought an ECM from a yard in Idaho and was pretty happy with the price and the shipping time. (conveniently for a '91 XJ, 4.0L)

The alternator went dead so we put a new one in and now its overcharging the battery (18 volts) and I have been told that the ECU controls the voltage regulation... the manual I have calls the ECU a single board engine controller II (sbec-II).... I checked at autozone and they want $197 for one that isn't even new... its a factory rebuild....JeepinJoe said:

I think it's only '91-93 for some reason. I can't remember why. You also need to match the number on the sticker on the ECM to a cross-reference chart.

The PicknPull usually has a bunch of XJs and I think they don't charge that much. If you wanted to try a test, I have one for my trail spare that you could plug in and see if it fixes the problem.
