Anyone Running a RE LA with a Banks Exhaust?

Just ordered a RE Long Arm upgrade for my for my '04 TJ (thanks again Wayne:D). I already have a Banks exhaust and I'm just trying to figure out whether or not it will clear before I do the Long Arm install...just thinking if it won't clear it will be easier to resolve before the new arms are in the way. I emailed RE early this morning but haven't received a response.

I can't answer the Banks issue, but I know my stock set up had to go and I have a hunch the Banks system will be the same. I'd install the LA kit first, then try to modify your existing system. That's a lot of coin to just toss.

I just received my banks monster exhaust. The muffler is actually smaller than the stock muffler. I noticed the other day that my stock muffler barely rubs on the upper control arm. With the smaller banks muffler, I think it might actually clear. I won't be ready to put it all back together until I get the head work done, and by that time, you may already have your stuff installed.

I got the header as well, so it should sound and run good when I am done with the mods.

I will post up when I get everything installed.

Not at all anxious to get rid of the Banks just thinking if it's a problem it's easier to resolve before the arms are in the way.

BlackSheep I thought that I remembered the Banks being smaller than the OEM exhaust...I'm hoping that it will work. I look forward to seeing your results. You should be very pleased with the Banks Header and Monster Exhaust...great sound and worth a few HP. I also have an Edge Trail Jammer kit and it runs significantly stronger than my stock '01 did.

Like others said, just install it first to see. If the Banks muffler is smaller than the OEM, you might have enough clearance. But no sense in spending $'s now when you aren't sure....

Oh, and I was going to tell you, on the RE1611 drop bracket for the HD trackbar... You will need to drill that out to 1/2" and as well on the axle side - not in the instructions. The HD trackbar uses 1/2 bolts instead of the 10mm that the extreme duty uses. The RE1613 hasn't been released yet...

Your kit left here yesterday as well :D

So...does the engineer/program manager in me show:rofl: I plan and calculate...spend money and time...then just fix it in the end like any normal person would:rolleyes:

Wayne...my kit shipped yesterday...that's great news...now it will be here in time for you to install on your way to Moab:D

I'm not familiar with the Edge trail jammer kit, perhaps it is an intake kit. I will be installing an AEM Brute Force intake kit. I think the combination of the intake and new exhaust (likely going to get a high flow cat as well) will really give my rig a boost.
I've got to find a machine shop to finish up the valve job so I can start getting it back together. I'm stoked to have a 'new' rig in the next month or so!

Hope you didn't get hurt falling out of you chair:rofl:. Serious Wayne...you're a great guy...thanks for the offer but who knows how much I might spend if I spent any significant time in person with you:D I think I'd better take care of this one on my own.

I am trailing just behind you on installing an RE long arm. Got mine from Wayne as well. Two things. When you install it, I have heard that they sit nose low, so I am considering a spacer up front to level. Like to know how yours turns out. Second. I was looking at the Banks exhaust. 4 Wheel Parts uses the Banks on thier RELA installs. Curious to see if yours works out. Thanks for the info/help.

I have 9 boxes in my garage that all say Rubicon Express on them and I haven't even had a chance to open them yet...been working on a mortgage lending license...passed the test this morning so I can think about the Jeep again:D

I currently have a RE SF4.5" lift on my TJ and it did sit nose low. I removed the front factory spring isolators (about .5" spacers) and replaced them with 1.75 coil spacers that tend to compress a little so they raised the front end just over an inch. Below you'll find a couple of pictures (not great pictures but they're the only ones I currently have that are a side view) that show how it sits after I installed the front spacers. I'm not sure if this is typical...just what I ran into on my installation.

Thanks for the info regarding the Banks exhaust...maybe it will work:)

I do what I can!

They do sit nose low; they maintain the factory rake. With a 4.5" lift you probably won't have any issues, but on the 5.5", keep an eye on the crossmember to front driveline clearance. Make sure that you can let the axle droop before it comes into contact. ...This is all if you add additional height to the front via a spacer or etc.

On my 5.5" I run 1 1/2" spacers up front and it's still a little nose low. I am running a winch and heavy bumper however.

Wayne, PM me a price on the 7" front coils?? ;)

The full kit has a intake, bigger throtle body, and a computer plug-in module. I've been eyeing it for a while to put on my 4.0L CJ.

Not to hyjack the thread but how are you guys liking your 4.0L power upgrades (edge kit, headers, etc.)? Did they really help or just make things louder?

My TJ has the full Edge Trail Jammer kit plus a Banks header and Monster exhaust...it definitely runs stronger than stock, paticularly at higher revs. Yes it's louder than stock but not much, Banks typically does a nice job with the sound of their systems.

Pros: runs stronger and IMO sounds better without being annoying. Also, the Banks header seems to be well put together.

Cons: Not sure the 'bang for the buck' is really worth it to me. I'm more accustomed to Diesel upgrades...spend about $1500 on a Duramax...works out to less than $15/hp and there is no doubt that it's no longer stock where this is probably around $50/hp and seems to mostly help at higher RPM where it doesn't get driven that much. Glad I have the upgrades...yes...but they were already on my TJ when I bought it. Also, seems to have an appetite for premium fuel (pings on anything less)...I don't remember this being an issue with my stock '01.

It will be interesting to learn what others have to say.

That's what I was assuming. I did about the same thing to my grand cherokee with the intake, computer, headers, etc and its was a big difference but it did cost alot. On a smaller 4.0L I would guess the gains would be smaller. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Edge programer did not require premium fuel? They even bost a 10% gain in milage. I all ready have a sorta open intake since I used a Rusty's intake to adapt my swap so I was thinking about getting the programer and maybe the TB or have my TB worked on (found a guy on ebay that does it for $59.)
