ATF Seizes toy guns. Claims they can be "converted"

And here's the follow up report:

This is our gov't folks...

So somebody needs to set up some hidden cameras and call the ATF to an airsoft store and call their bluff. If they confiscate, sue the holy crap out of them, and if they don't, sue the holy crap out of them. :)

I want to see that ATF "agent" fire a live round out of one, just to satisfy what I think should happen to him.....

What an idiot

I'd like to see a round chambered. They kept saying a round would explode in their face but skipped right over how to get one in there.

My thought process would be to somehow screw a legit barrel into the plastic upper, but thats about the only way I can figure it would be remotely possible. Not that it is, and if it was as stated the upper would explode

Willing to part with my airsoft ar-15. How does 1500 sound? Get them now before they are banned!

I saw it in the movie with clint eastwood where he is the secret service protecting the president. Plastic guns!

I didn't get into airsoft but I did get into paintball quite a bit so maybe you airsoft guys can enlighten me. So lets say a round could be chambered and a metal barrel attached, how would it fire still? Where is the firing pin? On a paintball gun it was just air coming from the bolt that chambered the round. I assumed airsoft was the same way without a pin? And if that's the case then your basically rebuilding the entire gun. Doesn't sound as easy to me as the first interview made it seem. Seems about as easy as that other video posted on here a bit ago where a shovel was turned into an ak-47. Whats the ATF's take on shovels?

The plumbing in my house can be turned into a firearm. The ATF is turning into a joke. They can't even keep burglars from stealing their own guns and sting operation props.

What is even better about this is the fact that the Milwaukee sherriff just released a video saying you can't count on police to defend you, your safety is your responsibility.

They outright give weapons away to Mexican cartel and pretend that they are able to track them.

I have been involved in the airsoft and paintball industries, and it is a blast.

I have talked to some of the guys that are "really into it" and they do say that yes some of the weapons could be converted to a real gun, (though I do not know of any in existence) but you would be replacing so much parts/pieces that it would be more work than it is worth. The GBB (Gas Blowback) style rifles are about the only ones I can think of even being able to possibly do it. Most are metal construction, (even some of the AEGs [Automatic Electric Gun] are metal contruction, but I still dont think they could handle the shock/trauma that a real round delivers. They would still require more work than they are worth. Might as well go buy a real one, or build your shovel gun.

Either way I think that seizing guns for that reason is pretty damn stupid and ridiculous. They look very real, that is the point, but to seize them for that reason, and that they "could" be converted is pretty stupid.

My friend brought up a good point, the ATF agent states that "if in the wrong hand they can be converted to a real weapon" well in the wrong hands any weapon, or anything could be used for the wrong reasons......

F&F was different. Like you said, they have the guns away. In Milwaukee they were unable to stop common criminals from stealing their whole operation.

One is incompetence, the other is just dubious and evil. Both show why we shouldn't trust the federal government which is nothing more than a collective of agencies like the ATF.

My brother is one of those "way into it" types for airsoft and even with his gun (very nice, all metal construction, gas blow back, probably $1K into that gun, etc) there's no possible way it could be turned into a weapon that would fire traditional bullets. Even the top of the line guns, are still pretty fragile in the grand scheme of things. No way would they ever be able to handle an explosion inside of them.
