Many of you know I'm a big fan of Aussie lockers and I have become an even bigger fan recently. I've had my D30 locker since December 2010 so it has 4.5 years and around 25k very hard miles on it. My rear 8.25 locker is coming up on 3.5 years and has over 10k extremely hard miles on it. I've broken several front u-joints/shafts and now a rear shaft as well with no harm done to the lockers. That alone is plenty to make me a fan, right? Definitely but it gets better!
While in Moab for EJS a couple months back I broke some stuff. My axle-side tracbar mount ripped right off the axle and the link tower hit the oil pan and wrecked the fuel pump. We were in the Marriott parking lot around 10PM working on dropping the pan when a couple people walk over. Turns out it's Cora, the owner of Aussie Locker and her husband Erik. They'd seen my posts on social media and knew who I was so we got to talking. I've gotta say they're some of the nicest people I've met and next thing I know they're offering up their brand new welder and generators so I can weld up my tracbar mount. I love meeting fellow wheelers and vendors and have met some great people but this level of kindness took the cake for me.
While talking to them we were discussing that the four of our Jeeps had 6 Aussie lockers and how happy we all are. I bring this up because we told them how my buddy Mike had to get a Spartan for his D30 some years back because Aussie lockers were back ordered at the time. This is Mike's rig:
Oddly enough a couple days after talking to them, this is his Spartan locker.
This is the super beefy cross pin that comes with the locker:
Here's the awesome collateral damage:
Yes, the R&P are toast and it punched a hole in the housing so it's done. This is a super disappointing and expensive failure since the locker is only warrantied for 1 year and the housing is toast.
Not awesome but this is:
I mentioned this all to Cora after it happened and they came through for Mike and GAVE him an awesome locker that was MADE IN THE USA!
So for anyone that's on the fence about what locker to get, I hope I helped make your decision easier
