Auto Tranny Rebuilder

So,,, I'm in the long process of putting a 5.3 in the CJ7. I have the engine almost completely rebuilt so now I'm moving on to other needs. I have a 700R4 that I picked up that had 160K miles on it and have been going back and forth to rebuild it or not.
Most re builders wont warranty an auto if they don't install it and some wont event rebuild it.

Anyone want to recommend a person or shop that has a great reputation in rebuilds that would do this for me?

Thanks,

I have had good luck with G&S transmissions just down the street from you on Holladay blvd. If Steve still runs the shop he has treated me well and I always just bring the tranny down to him out of the vehicle.
PS When you put the 700R4 in remember the torque converter lockup circuit. On my Commando I thought the extra wires on the brake switch plug was for cruise control but it was part of the torque converter lockup circuit. The Commando works much better and gets better mileage now that I hooked the circuit back up.

I have used Transmissions Limited on State in Sandy with good results. It's been a number of years though and not sure if warranty changes if you bring in the tranny separately.

Also make sure you deal with the TV cable-- not sure what provisions you'd have to make to run that on an LS throttle body... on the TBI motors, of course, it's attached to the linkage on the side of the rather carby throttle body... and it's critical that it's adjusted properly, or you'll burn it up.

There are many discussions and results on the matter via google. I should be ok, I hope.

Purely out of curiosity. If you're swapping in a 5.3, why not use a 4l60? The 700r4 will require adaptation parts to bolt to a 5.3 anyway, and the TV cable adaptation, plus 99.9% of 5.3 computers are auto/4L _ _ E anyway.

I could see if you had a great 700r4 already installed you wanted to keep, but if you're going to rebuild it anyway. I imagine it's worth at least suggesting that you pick up a $100 4L60 core, and rebuild that instead.

On a 700R4 there is no one better than Jeff Parrish in Centerville. He knows how to make them hold up to some high horsepower hot rods and even in some drag race applications. PM me if you want his phone number.

Trust me, I have gone back and forth on this. I have a K case 700, the flywheel and spacer, the wire harness and ECM are coming, setting up the TV cable is simple with the help of Bowtie Overdrive. After reading the problems with the 4L60E and what is needed to fix those I think I'm better off with the 700, not to say that the 700 doesn't have it's problems as well.

That name sounds familiar, does he have a shop?

Jeff does have a shop but he only works there part time because he has a real day job. He does a lot of engine/transmission work and won't take advantage of you.
