Okay so I finally purchased a used rearend that I want tofixup to throw under my Jeep. It is pretty dirty. What is the best way to get all the crud off the stupid thing. Also what is the best way to clean out the inside before I go putting in my new locker and gears & shafts.
If I was to take off all the important things like brake lines and small fittings off the outside of the housing would it be okay to pressure wash it.
What have you guys done that seems to work the best.
Thanks

If you remvoe all the guts I would pressure wash it. We did it to goats rear axle in cedar city this year when he broke a rear shaft and it ground it up. We just went to the car wash and hosed it from one end to the other, it worked pretty good

Wire wheel, wire brush, carb cleaner, flap wheel and patience.

This case used to be BLACK. I made it look new ;) Took about 1-2 hours, but I like clean parts.

Harbor Frieght sells an air nozzle tool that lets you suck up solvent with your air compressor and blast it out the nozzle. We blast mineral spirits solvent into the tubes and internal housing and catch it in a big flat pan. Works great.
