I'm thinking about buying an older Jeep which is located in Calif. The guy doesn't know much about it, and has only had it a few months. He says the PO swapped in axles from a K5 Blazer; they are 6 lug. I'm thinking they're 44/12B, what do you think? Sorry the pics aren't the greatest.

Best I could grab off Ebay, good of rear, not so good of front.

It is 10 bolts front AND rear.:) 205 t-case.

If the PO just bought a truck and put the running gear in it, they would both be 10 bolts... I don't think that GM ever used the truck 12 bolt and 10 bolt on the same year vehicle... I.E. 12 bolts were out of production before the 10 bolt was in production.

yeah they did, 10 bolt fronts went in around '78, they kept the 12 bolt rear until 1981, my '80 blazer had 10 bolt front 12 bolt rear stock

Sounds great, thanks guys! Hopefully I can talk him down some in price then.

10b is almost a 44, strength-wise, but not quite, right?

oops, I always think of them as front axles only. Yes, the fronts are about equal, rears I would not run. :D

I'd replace that w/a rear 60 or a 14bolt. C-clips suck.

So definitely need to replace the rear to lock it?
I would definitely replace the rear if you're gonna lock it up.

Easy as pie to bolt in a 14b FF, and swap the front outers to 8-lug. All cheap, super easy to find junk-yard parts, and a Saturday's worth of work... Voila! 3/4 ton axles now!

Alright, thanks to your help I was able to whittle him down on price to where I could afford it, BARELY!

So, I'll let the cat out of the bag. Here's the Jeep I just bought!
