June 17-18: Moab with Friends (2 nights)
June 19-21: S. Utah Backcountry with WC (3 nights)

2 nights at scout camp (Little Lemhi near Palisades, ID) in the Cabela's Alaskan Guide tent - Great time with my 12 year old boy. Then headed home, shower, 4 hrs sleep and out to a great creek to fish for Cutthroats. It's a bit of a hike in wading shoes but good times and lots of fish. The Rattle Snake that I nearly got nose to nose with put a damper on my excitement for the day. I kept fishing but boy that scared me. 4.5 ft of rattle and fear!

That brings me to 17 NIGHTS so far. (with my situation I am really happy about how this summer is shaping up.)

Sorry for the long post. It's for my benefit.

Two more nights! This is a cool one, little background: Every year my wife and her sisters get a plan together and put on what they call "Cousins Camp". It is where the cousins all come together (and their Mom's) to do activities, hang out, and party for a few days.

This year was cool because we rented a lodge between Victor and Swan Valley Idaho called Pine Basin. It began in the 50's as a ski resort (a lodge and tow rope) and operated into the 70's. Since then it has been operated by a School district here in Idaho.

Anyway, my Brother and I went there as kids to camp, so it was cool to go back.

3 full days, 18 cousins and the first time the Dad's were invited. (we got to fish and hike on our own. It was great)

2 more nights puts me at 19 nights total

It was funny because the Lodge sleeps a lot of people, but me + sleeping + lots of other people snoring, farting, wiggling do not mesh, so I was in a tent sleeping cozy, quietly and happily.

Everyone thought I was the nut job until the next morning when I was rested and they weren't.

Snakes, hikes, fish, fossils, games, and dutch oven cooking made it a great time for everyone.

Also in one photo you will see we were protected by a samurai warrior all weekend!

This one was perhaps the most relaxing of any scout campout I've gone on, which is saying something being 3 years in as assistant scoutmaster. Gorgeous lake, tent right by a babbling creek, and boys that were unusually well behaved. Combine that with moderate weather and a gorgeous night sky - perfection.

Well, just got back from Yellowstone a couple of days ago. I am putting a better report together, but it was truly magical.

9 Deer, 4 otters, 3 eagles, 1 grizzly, a few lake trout, lizards, frogs and some ravenous Scouts were all the wildlife we saw. It was pretty dang cool.

35 miles canoeing in 3 days on the water. Did I mention canoeing uses muscles you don't normally use? lol

This brings me to 3 more nights in Yellowstone - 22 Nights Total

***After looking at how clean Mesha's list was I decided to try to do that:

January 1 night on Southfork/skiing
March 4 Nights
April 3 Nights turkey hunting near Chesterfield, ID
May 3 Nights @ Birch Creek/Lone Pine, ID
June 1 Night backpacking on the Bear River
June 2 Nights Driggs/Victor Idaho fishing/family
July 1 Night in Island Park - fishing the mighty Madison River in Montana
July 2 Nights Little Lemhi scout camp
August 3 Nights in Yellowstone Lewis Lake/Shoshone Lake

I will have to go back through this entire thread to see what I missed.

Spend a night at the cabin then backpacked in and spent a night then packed out and spent a night at the cabin. Guy going with me was limited on time or we would have stayed longer, about 15 miles of hiking for me in the 2 days. dog ran about 30 though and is still sore. Not sure what my total is but the hunt starts next days off so its gonna increase quickly

Man jealous of all you all. I need to get on it. I haven't been out at all this year and no one in our group drew tags so no hunt this year either.

Well I guess now I can join in.

2 nights Whitney Reservoir 8 and 9 August. For a grand total of 2 nights.

I'm actually really disappointed in myself for this, I love camping... I just don't do it enough, obviously.

I'll get in a couple more nights this weekend thanks to the Elk Archery opener at Strawberry.

Possibly the best campout ever

Last Friday I finally got it done. This is proof that you have to schedule some things and plan them to make them happen.

My daughter has been wanting to go out, just the two of us for a while. I love going places with her and although we do our daddy/daughter dates pretty frequently, it is tough to get out overnight without all of her brothers. (We have 4 boys and just one princess)

After talking to her a little bit we decided she wanted to invite some of her best friends along, so I called some Dad's and got commitments. Then someone's wife (of course) told me that we would be inadvertently excluding one or two girls in their Primary class so it expanded. I was a little grumpy at first but then realized that good ideas travel fast and it couldn't hurt. So, we ended up having a total blast!

We went to dinner on the way to our camping spot at Big Judds in Archer Idaho. (Man Vs. Food had an episode on their other location) The girls split a couple of HUGE burgers and had a great time. Then the camping spot was only another 20 minutes up the road. It is a private family camping spot of a friend of mine. It is great because there are no facilities, (power, water, cabins) but it does have a good fire ring, a creek running by and a rodent hole covered field. 7 girls 9 years old are a total blast. After playing tons of dancing games, eating deserts from the pie irons and giggling like crazy we all looked at a completely dark, star ridden sky. About 11:30 we headed to bed.

I got up earlier than everyone else, because that's just me and hiked to a rock outcropping on top of the ridge. It was a beautiful sunrise. I left my camera charging in the car of course, so no pics but they are great in my mind.

After a superb breakfast, we loaded up and hit the road to go swimming at Heise Hot Springs. It has a pool, a water slide and some natural hot pools, all in the mountains along the South Fork of the Snake River. Little girls love to swim and the weather was awesome. I handed out sun glasses to everyone when I took off my shirt and we had 4-5 hours of fun!

On the way home we had pizza at the best small town, dive pizza place in the country. Stop Light Pizza in Rire, ID.

It was a great time. Total is 23 nights!!

IF YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER - TAKE HER CAMPING. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
