Banff, Jasper, Yoho

We're planning a trip in August. We've rented a house in Canmore for 10 nights, so we'll have 10 days or so to see the best of the area. We're there to see the national parks. If you've been there, what are the best things to see and do in Banff, Yoho, and Jasper National Parks? We'll have 3 vehicles and 10 people with kids as young as 3.

I'm planning on driving my Honda, unless there is a compelling reason I need 4-wheel-drive.

Angie and I went to Banff for our honeymoon in 1998. There's a cool tram ride up the mountain just outside of town that is incredible. I would look into a tour on the Columbia icefields. Check that link, it has info on both. I envy your family for going there. We wish we had gone to the national park there also. The drive from Calgary to Banff is incredible, you'll see the Olympic park there. Hope your not going there during Stampede!

There is also an overlook road just on the North end of town, its not very long and it has some nice hiking trails along with incredible views.

Now we've got a list going. Keep the suggestions coming. Gotta go google 'Banff stampede' now and see what comes up. Almost afraid. Better turn on safe search...

*edit* Calgary Stampede is a rodeo, and almost a month before we arrive.

You won't be dissapointed. Banff is amazing! I concur with your list of "must do's". The rigs that traverse the ice fields are basically bad ass busses with monster truck tires.

Calgary is a pretty nice town. Canadians are weird. :-\
