Barstow wheelin'

Went playin' this weekend, opted for somewhere warm (70-80's and sunny), and wound up in the Barstow area...

Friday we were out at Calico and wanted to run Odessa canyon, but Clint Eastwood is out there with Steven Spielberg filming two movies - Red Sun, Black sand and Flags of our Fathers. Red Sun is a Japanese movie that will have US subtitles and vicer versa for Flags. They are both the same movie, but are positioned from both stand points (WWII Iwo Jima). Sounds kind of interesting to see! We went up Mule Canyon and took off up some ATV trails and were able to see down on to their set in the canyon (we weren't looking for it, just happened to end up somewhere we could see it). Talking to the sherrif the next day, we find out that 'two white Jeeps caused them to stop filming yesterday - looked just like yours' :ugh: oops! We were up high and didn't think we were even close to being in the way. They asked to have the canyon off limits, and BLM said no. Then some Jeeper's went up there and the sheriff told them to go right through and don't stop. Apparently the third guy back decided to stop and climb around some old trucks they had on the set. They were loaned from a guy's collection in LA and they damaged the equipment, so they went to court and sued the BLM to lock the area down. A'holes! -_- On a side note, it took them 2 weeks to clean up the trash and graffiti in that canyon to film the movie. I've never seen so much garbage on the ground in my life. ...And we complain about a soda/beer can on our trails here. I was COMPLETELY dissgusted!!!!! And no, I'm not speaking of the garbage in Tin Can Alley.... Before you flame me, I understand one leads to many and if nobody cares it will look like this.

Saturday we decided to head west, and play out at Stoddard and run Achy Breaky. Fun trail! I drove over a large rock and pulled it up into my rear passenger fender and destroyed it (the fender). :-\ Otherwise good fun.

Sunday we hung out around Calico some more and checked out all of the different side roads throughout Mule Canyon. We also went out to Rainbow Cliffs and drove around there some, too.

Monday we spent 5 hours (12-5) trying to get from Calico to Vegas. What is it, 150 miles? Don't ever b*tch about our traffic...It could be worse!

Still on the camera... Haven't had a chance to download them yet. Got in at like midnight last night and had to be up this am for work and now I'm watching my son... But as always, my wife took them, so they are limited and few. Her comment... 'they are just rocks and they all look the same'.

What am I not getting here?:ugh:

A couple years back there was a UROC Extreme West event at Cougar Buttes, and most of the competitors (including Braden and I) stayed in Barstow. Braden was lucky enough to have the bed of his truck emptied out overnight in the hotel parking lot. Tools, camp chairs, whatever else was there.

BOGUS!!! I believe it though... If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't stay there again. Lot's a rif raff running around town in lowered cars with their beats going. Several times I got up and looked out the window to make sure my Jeep was still even there. Luckily it was... I was also able to park 3' from my door, and the walls were thin, so I could hear everything going on. Even someone walking on the sidewalk.

Where at, Mc D's? It took us like 8-9 hours to get from Calico to there.

I did...Wifey bought it for Valentines. Didn't cost her anything and it's a write off for me, but it's the thought that counts. :D

I doubt they'll keep us in the movies.... I don't think they had Wrangler's during WWII. ;)

We were hoping to make a run out there (Mojave) but didn't have time. There is a nasty trail out near there, can't remember the name, that we wanted to try out...

Glad to hear the shocks work! I haven't tried the fenders yet, but I'm sure they will.. ;)
