I am thinking about riding from Beaver Mtn up and over to Paris Flats to St Charles and then over to Fish Haven and back on the single track trails.

Who has do this and was it fun?

How far is it? I'm not even sure where those places are located. I may be interested in tagging along if it's not out of my fuel range. I'm not sure when I'll be ordering a larger fuel tank, but you may motivate me:D

I live right at the mouth of Beaver canyon if you need a place to park your truck or anything.

I spend most of my free time in this area so I would say yes it is a LOT of fun and for you it is worth the drive imo ;) I actually made part of that loop on my last ride. The section of single track passing through Beaver and Paris is as the "Highline Trail" with many trails leading off of it. It is not extreme, but beginners will struggle in some spots--that said I am sure you would love the technical sections the trail has to offer.

The highlights on this ride are Bloomington lake, the plane crash sight and the Paris Ice caves along with excellent views and scenery. I wish I was better at posting maps--I could show you right were they are :-\ if you're interested I can do my best to give directions. I consider the lake and the caves mandatory if you have never been they really make the trip worthwhile. The Paris Ice cave has a hidden cavern with a slight squeeze to access it so bring a flashlight and there is a rope swing at the lake if you have room for a swimsuit

Not sure what your time frame is, but I'd love to meet you at the top of Egin basin/Beaver creek and show you around.

I have a cabin at Bear Lake. I drive up Pairs Canyon to the ice cave with friends who think im crazy all the time. 90* outside and snow on the ground in less than 100 feet. Way cool for sure. Walking into the area you feel the temp change more than once.
Where is the plane crash site? Is this up Bloomington Canyon by the lakes?

We have a cabin up in Bear Lake as well. We spend a lot of time in and around St. Charles. It will be a trip worth taking. I've never been to the plain crash site, but I heard it's pretty neat. Bloomington lake is awesome. I dare you to try and swim across:rofl:. Freaking cold . It's funny I spent half of my childhood in the Bear Lake Valley and have never heard of the Paris Ice Caves. Even though I've been to Paris hundreds of times. Another place worth checking out is the Minnetonka Cave. It is a lot like Timpanogos Cave. I guess all that would make for a hella long day. Have fun on your trip. I envy you:(.

Minnetonka cave is awesome! Along the highline trail just South of the Bloomington lake turnoff there is a big rock pile/crossroads with directions on it. North and South mark the Highline trail, East marks the Minnetonka Cave trail and the other (West) marks the Hull Valley trail. I don't know if the Cave turnoff is open to bikes but I do know the Hull Valley trail is not so you may want to look into that if you want to see Minnetonka Cave via the Highline. A lot of the trail network is unmarked and/or vague when it comes to bike access so it doesn't hurt to have a good map. The Minnetonka cave has guided tours so plan ahead if you choose that option, and the Paris cave is unguided and free.

I envy you guy's with cabins :chris:

Its actually at the top of Beaver Creek on the way to Egin Basin just off of the main road. I haven't been there since I was a kid but I believe there is still a sign there giving directions to it.

Here is the proposed route.

I would love to hit the plane crash. Where is it?

The crash is at the top of Pat Hollow in the 02' 50" N 33' 00" W area.

Found this online: "A short way north, on FR 411, is the Pat Hollow Crash site, which memorializes a 1953 military transport plane which crashed, killing all aboard"

Edit: The loop you have planned makes for a long day in the saddle, but it will be a lot of fun!

I am excited for the ride, thats for sure. We plan on leaving home at 7am and not returning until dark. Hope my ass is up to the time in the saddle. I added padding to my seat and I have yet to do a long ride with it.

We are also planning to eat at the Bear Claw or something like that in St. Charles.

I have been up in this area on the sleds but never on a bike so I can't wait. Hopefully my skill level will allow me to stay rubber side down.

Just remember to keep walking on the trail at Bloomington lake... what I mean is a lot of new people think the first "pond" you approach is the lake and they get bummed out  The lake is a ways past the pond but you can't see it until you're there ;)

Changed my oil and filters, cleaned my air filter, lubed my chain and washed the WR and now I am ready to go.

Your welcome to join us Rot. We are leaving Kaysville at 7am and stopping in Logan for a few minutes so realistically it will be closer to 9am by the time we get to the trail head.

The second pond isn't Bloomington either. Used to camp there when I was a scout I really need to get back.

There will actually be two trip reports for this. There will be mine and hopefully Cheston will post his report.

We things loaded up and were on the road by a little after 6am, stopped in Logan to eat breakfast and then headed put Beaver Mountain.
Three miles up the trail, I got a flat on my rear tire. I told the other guys I would go back to Logan and get my tire fixed and meet them in St Charles for lunch.

So off I went to ride back to the truck, loaded up and took off down the road to Logan. A mile down the road, I head the state road painting crew. Finally after about 15 minutes of having to follow them, they finally pulled off to let the cars go by.

My first stop was the Honda dealer in N. Logan, they told me they couldn’t touch it and then they pointed me to a little cycle shop just south of them a few hundred yards. They too told me they were too busy. They pointed me to a snowmobile/motorcycle shop further north a mile or so.

When I finally go there, they hustled me back and pulled the wheel and separated the tire from the rim. The hole looked like a pinch but they had the wrong tube so off they went to the Honda dealer to get me the correct tube. Finally after watching guy wrestle with the two rim locks I asked if I could show him a shortcut and he smiled and said sure like I was going to get my ass handed to me as well. A few minutes later, I was on my way with a new tube and the guy with a new technique to quickly mount a double rim locked wheel. While the tire was off, we checked for anything sharp in the tire and also made sure all the spokes were okay.

I took off back to Beaver Mountain with no slow-downs and unloaded again. This time I took off up the highway (plated WR450) to Bear Lake and St. Charles Idaho. The plan was to meet at the Bear Paw Inn for lunch. I made it there 15 minutes before they did.

At lunch all the talked about was the crazy cliff with only 6 inches of trail along it, the 4 foot drop, the Ice Caves, and on and on. I sat there hoping they would go back the same way they had come because originally, they were going to take an ATV trail back from Fish Haven. It was decide much to my excitement that they would go back the same way.

Off we go back up the asphalt toward the canyon that follows the St Charles stream and just near the top, the back end of my WR gets squirrely again. I pull over to find my rear tire flat again. In 38 years of riding motorcycles, I have never ever gotten a flat on a ride. Normally, I would have carried a spare tube and tire irons but seeing how it’s never me with the flats, I left them on my work bench because I didn’t want the weight in my backpack.

I tell the guys to go ahead and I will try to get back to Beaver Mountain and if I’m not there, load up and come find me because I am going to try to limp back to the main road and see if I could get a truck to haul me back to Beaver Mountain. By the time I limped back to Garden City (15 miles), my rear tire was shot and during that whole time there was only one truck that was empty that passed, everything was cars so I eventually made it to Garden City and waited for them to come get me.

I only had to wait 30 minutes or so before they came down the road. They had decided to take a quicker way back to the trailer. The whole way back they laughed and talked about how much fun that ride was and just had to sit there hoping they will want to run it again before snow fall. I did see a squirrel, a snake and two cow elk. My nephew took his Go-Pro so I do have that to look forward to watching and I will post a link when I get it.

The funny thing on the way home at about Willard, the tire sensor goes off on my Expedition. I pull over and everything was good. I would have lost it if I had gotten a flat on my car.

Our next trip is the 26th on the Paiute Trail.

As soon as Caleb gets home from his tropical trip, I am ordering all new tires and tubes.

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that sucks so bad! :( That's random I blew my front and rear out (that was fun let me tell ya!) on the ride before last in that same area for no apparent reason.

If you ever get a chance and do want to head back up here again let me know I'd love to run that loop. I could probably do the mid week thing as well if I had a few days notice.

Not to make it worse, BUT we actually have 2 :D. One in St. Charles and one just above the golf course in Sweetwater!! I guess thats what happens when my grandpa grew up there (St. Charles) and the other side of my family out grew his cabin, so they built there own. It makes it a heck of a lot easier to get my wife out when were not camping on the ground. There is some pretty fun wheeling over the back side of Sweetwater to Beaver Creek and all over the back side of the hill.
