Bender mounting Q's

I have a question directed to those that have a JD2 Model 3 Bender......

I'm attempting to mount the Bender and need to build the Plate that the Bender sits on. I need to know if the Main Bolt that goes thru the Die, needs to be bolted to the Plate?

It looks like it does, but I recently saw one where the end of the bolt was resting about a 1/8" above the plate?!?

If anyone can get a Pic of their setup from underneath, that would be even better!

You're probably right. But why is it Threaded, w/ a HUGE nut that goes on there? Just to support the weight of the Die?

I was wondering if those 2 Bolts on the other end were enough to keep the thing in place..... guess so.

JD2 needs some hella better instructions for mounting this thing. Drunken monkeys could have written more detailed directions........

Well, there's a piece welded onto the Bottom of the Bender that has a huge Threaded stud, pointing in a downward direction.

It must only be for the Degree ring, since mine came w/ one. You ordered yours w/o, right?

I think it's odd that the whole weight of the Bender is on 2 smaller Bolts, balanced on the far side of the die. Then you have this huge stud and it holds the 4 lb. Degree Ring on, directly under the Die and it's not used for support??? WTF?

Well, after alot of work, my Bender is finally MOUNTED!! :D

I ran out of Wire on my Welder last night, then out of gas this afternoon, with one gussett left to add to the Stand. Oh well, I'm pretty impressed w/ how it's turned out so far. The thing should be more than sturdy enough. I'll get pics once I finish that one gussett and fog the thing with Black Paint.

Now, I need to buy a 1.5" Die and start the Bendin'!!

personally I think the 1.5" vs. 1.75" is a matter of opinion...I went with the 1.75"...but a lot of guys go with the 1.5"...I think with a proper design either will do most vehicles fine...I am pretty sure Carl's buggy is all 1.5"...

My Bender came w/ a 2" Die, great for Jeeps, Broncos, Cruisers or any other 'Full-size' vehicle. I like the look of 1.5" on smaller Rigs, Toy's, Sammis, etc. Also, 1.5 is about perfect for sliders and bumpers.

I agree though, it's all personal prefrence. I thought about selling my 2" Die, but I may just keep it for eventual use. Getting the $$ for the 1.5" Die may take awhile, :( .

Eventually I want to get a 7/8" or 1" die for building Roof Racks, Tube doors, etc....
