Bent or broke Dana 60 king pin

If I have a bent or broke upper king pin, will my tire lean away from the rig?
I have replaced the spring, bushing, and spring retainer. Also new bearing and race on the lower king pin.

That depends on the backspace of the wheel.

Say on a 9" overall width wheel, less than 4.5" backspace will make the top lean in, more than 4.5" backspace will cause the top to lean out.

All was good until I busted all my high steer bolts off and destroyed my knuckle. Put a new knuckle on and that side leans out. It never did that be for.

It's a new knuckle so it's not bent.bear I'm going to swap it out in the morning, but if that's not the fix, well it will be your problem while I'm gone. It's the only thing I can thing that could be left. Unless some one else has any ideas.

If you bent or broke a kingpin, you are probably still waiting for rescue to cut you out of the horrible crash you've been in. :eek:

But you might have bent a housing or knuckle. :D That's far, FAR more likely.

I don't think the c is bent and I'm sure the housing is not. It was fine until I took the old knuckle off. But every thing changed with the new one on. I'm betting the king pin is toast. It looks kind of like this |---/ , but both tires are straight except passenger tire leans away from rig.

Easy, if its something like a H1 wheel with a ton of backspacing, the upward force is inside the vertical line of the kingpins, this is pushing up, in an arc, which pushes the upper part of the tire out.

If you are running a wheel with no backspace, the force is outside the kingpins, pushing the top of the tire in.

You probably put the shim in the wrong direction. I did this the first time I took our D60 apart.

I have to say: What the hell? to all three of these posts. :rofl:

Brandon: torque spec on kingpin installs is like 600ft. lbs. Use a bigger lever. :D

Carl: :wtf: Does Ford have to insist on every weird Ford-specific mod to common parts or what? See: 7lug axles, 31spl cases-- that doesn't even divide by anything!! hahah

Chevycrew: I just ate and can't devote enough blood to my brain so I can make sense of that but I'll ponder it :D

This axle does not have shims, back spacing on the wheels has not been the issue befor I broke my knuckle, and has far as the loose king pin. I have no explanation. I just took knuckle apart to replace the old king pin and it was loose. So I put the new one on.
I would of liked to put all back together last night but the newer knuckle I got has to cracks in it. Yes I know stock ford are shit but it's what I got. Hopefully the place I got it will swap me out for one that hasn't been cracked and repaired. Or give me my money back.
