how are you using your gps? Do you enter waypoints, or upload a .gpx from someone else's trip, or are you using it to track where you're going?

Uh, yes? All of the above. If I have a definite route I plan to use, I'll upload a set of waypoints (mine or somebody elses). If I'm wandering, I'll sometimes start a track or at least set a waypoint or two. I pretty much only use BCN in the truck, though. For hiking, my Etrex has much better battery life.

Mostly I wish I could plot a track with the same maps I'm seeing in BCN. Reconciling Google Earth (which I use to plot tracks) and Accuterra (which is the mapset I normally use in BCN) is not always super easy.

can you not plot maps in BCN beforehand?

Give trimble a shot again, it'll do all those things.
