So, anyone know anything about moths? My two-year old showed me this one on a pot in our front yard. Can you identify it?

Yup, that's it! It sounds like they suck flower pollen at night, so it'll probably be gone in the morning. If it spread it's wings fully (like the one pictured on that site) I bet it would be 6 inches across or more.

Reading up a bit, it sounds like they are a real pest if you're trying to grow tomatoes. Should I kill it if it's still there tomorrow?

Haven't seen one like that for years. Used to get them at the restaurant I worked at. They liked the bug zapper but were too big to fit...

The freaking thing would burn down your building if it got into a zapper.

We used to see the tomoto worms in our tomatoes, but we would always catch them in a jar and wait for the cocoon. Big suckers, never realized they had that anteather-long tongue. Thier flapping sounds like a bat when they are in a shed with a little lightbulb trying to fly around.

Nature is coming back... with a vengance. I saw a garter snake our on a walk with my five year old near my parents house a while back... hadn't seen one in that area for YEARS.
Then the angry spider I engountered at Mill Hollow, now the attack of the killer moth?

Anbody remember that movie where the frogs and moths and stuff kill all those people in an everglades resort?

:spork:

Holly Crap I just saw one of those in the park city area, but the one that was showed to me was really kind of pretty, almost like a huge fat arsed butterfly..

The lady that had it in a box was telling me there all over the park city area.

Heres the other big one around: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsy_moth
