Billings Canyon, Grand Junction CO, Sunday Apr. 1st

I met up with 2 of the local guys from 'Junction, Wally & Josh. They're 2 good guys. Wally just completed a handful of huge mods in a very short amount of time (WB stretch, new axles, wheels & tires), and wanted to test it all out before EJS, so we all headed out to Billings. I took my dirtbike and rode as far up the trail as I could.

It kind of starts out like Lower Helldrado, pretty easy. There's a lot of sand, mixed with rock all in the bottom of a wash. As you progress up the trail, the rocks get bigger. Eventually you're picking your line thru huge rock formations, boulders & crevices. There's one spot thats about 100 ft long where it's just insane... Josh compares it to Die Trying in Montrose. It's badass.

Then it starts to get fun...

This is a view of the part where it's comparable to Montrose. We stopped below this & hiked up. The pic doesn't do justice to the trail or show how difficult & long this spot it, but it's nasty. It's 100+ feet of this...

BTW... Wallys YJ is now sporting 39.5" TSL's and 17" double beadlocks from USA6x6.

I saw that sign & thought that something similar might be appropriate on Constrictor. There's a handful of other signs on the sides of the trail that say 'Out of bounds', marking bypasses. Plus the 'No rock stacking' signs at the big obstacles. It's a very well marked trail.

The pics are cool, but you need to come see it in person.

I've run Billings at all kinds of different times of the year. July & August are bad because of the heat and sand gnats, but it can usually be run all year. Billings and 21 Rd make a great weekend. Schedule a run and I'll be there. Wally and I typically run 21 Rd at least 2-3 times per month all spring/summer/fall.

Billings is 1.2 miles long. I've run it in just over 2 hours with 2 other rigs and no carnage. I've also run it in 9+ hours with several rigs and lots of carnage. That was a long day to put it mildly. It'll kick your butt if you're not built and ready for it, and once you start on the upper half (where Greg says they walked up) there's no turning around and very little room to pass anywhere. If you break bad you either fix it on the trail or winch it out the top end.

Until the spring runoff is done, 21 Rd will be real wet & muddy - just an FYI.

Directions are kind of iffy, it's one of those trails that you have to know... that being said, I'd be happy to show you where it is.

I'm not quite sure if my 4Runner will be ready on the 10th, but I'll do everything I can!

Well we'll be coming in from Price.

So the 10th probably between 12:00 and 2:00 some where for 21 road. next day Billings around 10:00 and remember this is all tenative. You have my cel. give us a call.
