so i have some bilstein 5150 shocks on my jeep. just the other day one of them came of on the axel side. the shock boot on the bottom fell off so when i screw the shaft back on to the mounthing bracket it will not stay it will just fall off again. i have tryed to lock tight it on and put some teflon tape on and still it falls off.
is this little flat plate causeing this to not stay tight. were can i get a new one.
or should i just weld it on?

There should be a jamb nut on the bottom that you can tighten... If it's tightened properly, they shouldn't come apart ever again... If there isn't one, you need one.:)

so this is what i have.

here you can see where it goes in to.

here is how it needs to look all put together.
and you can see the washer thing that i am missing on the other shock is this needed then? is that why the other one keeps falling off?

i had this other guy on this other site that owns a off road shop tell me that they should not thread on at all and that i should call bilstein and tell them that they for got to weld it on and get a new one. well first off they are three years old and as far as i can tell on bilsteins web site they thread on because you can change the shafts out. am i right or should i call them? all so he said if they will not do anything about it then to just weld it. does anyone know if i can get parts to fix this shock or should i just weld it tell i can get a new one. thanks

I'm pretty sure they thread on.

The washer is to keep the bottom eye from punching the seal at the bottom of the shock body. If you are confident in never ever bottoming the shock out, you can leave it off. Otherwise get a replacement washer. (just a washer, not a specific Bilstein washer)

Your threads are likely damaged now, so thread it on then weld it on. You can't ruin the shock any worse than it's already ruined now, so just go for it! :)

My bet is that currently your rear shocks are limiting your flex causing the threaded end to pull out. I'd put some straps on there that limit your flex right before your shocks are fully extended. That's what my issue was that caused my Bilsteins to pull apart at least.

this other guy on another site told me to get these.
sould these work for what i need.

Yeah, those would work to allow your shocks to have more length to extend....but you still run the risk of your shocks limiting your downtravel. That also could cause an issue of bottoming out your shocks if you have more uptravel than those allow, which in turn will eventually kill them as well. You would need to make sure that you have a bump-stop in place to limit your uptravel before your shocks bottom out and I'd still recommend running limiting straps to limit downtravel.

so what did you do to fix the shock? did you weld it or did it go back on with no issues.

I ended up welding it back on...but then it leaked because I was bottoming out the shocks as well, and the welded part was ruining the seal.

If you have your uptravel bump-stopped enough so the welded part won't ruin the seal then that's probably your best route to go.
