Does anyone know anything about these spiders? I caught one about three weeks and it has become the work mascot it lives in a gallon water jug. It has molted once and eatin about ten crickets since we've had it. I'm getting a little nervous it's abdomen is blowing up like a ballon and it looks like it's crowning does this mean it's about to drop the mother load if so it's going in the dumpster.

I kept one in my locker in a jar in high school...

The janitor saw it walking down the hall and screamed like a little girl.

I got in a touch of trouble, and had to let the spider go... I'm sure I'd go to jail if I did it these days.

Anyway, I think widows do the round fuzzy lintball style egg sacks... not live young.

I had some brick work in my basement next to the fireplace for log storage... last year, a BIG widow with a shrunken skinny abdomen crawled out from between the brick and the sheetrock.
The spider died, and I demo'd the brick. Never saw the egg sack, but never got baby spiders in my basement this year either.

I had a few mascot spiders for awhile. One of them started eating lots of food, and even eating the other spiders, it got huge like that, then one day there were about 1000 little spiders that were small enough to get out of any little hole I could see.

You maybe a proud pappa soon!

The female then lays several batches, containing up to 750 eggs each, in one summer. The egg case, about 1/2 inch in diameter, is suspended in the web. It is white to tan in color and has a paper-like texture.

I just found this on desertUSA.com I think I'm in the clear
