Blue Monster Buggy (Thing) Build Thread

This thread is way past due.
So I will put up alittle everyday because thats all I got time for.
My dad has alwas wanted to build something that would go anywhere with out body damage, and something differnet.
So 6 years ago he started to build his Thing, it took him 4 years to where he could drive it.
He let me drive it once and I had to have one,
We used to jeep alot till we had twin girls then that made for 5 kids and you dont fit 5 kids in a CJ7 jeep.
So after I drove his Thing I couldnt sleep for days wondering how I would build one. So after talking to the wife first (learned that the hard way) she said it would be fine but it had to hold all of our kids.
Since my dads work great I had a prototype to build from.

Here are the Specs
both steering rockwells
455 Buick engine and I still run a carb on it
turbo 400 with a dana20 on the back of it (that pops out of gear)
into a Vdrive out of that into a NP201 then to the axles
POS steering
Stazworks wheels
54" boggers
136" wheel base
99" wide
not sure of the weight

We stopped and looked at both of em one day when you guys were stopped at the Wendys in PG. Pretty cool rigs. I was hoping you guys would come out cause I had a ton of questions to ask you. But you were enjoying your happy meals to much.
I thought they were both well thought out and really think they are for sure not the normal every day buggy. I look forward to you posting more details.

That is a kool rig! I really like the way that you built it for the whole family! Long, wide & safe. I saw you down at the snakes back in March, when it was really wet up there. Without all the water out there, that thing looks like it will go anywhere.
I think the potty chair strapped to the top of the cooler's in the Moab pix is just too kool! Awesome Rig!

The porta potty is the best thing on it.
My 2 girls ride in the middle seat in there car seats while the other 3 boys ride in the back
I also built the front seat so my 12 and 10 year can drive it.

Here is the final pics
I have recently moved the winch off the front end and mounted it right on the axle.
Installed Lockers When I had the axles out I machine them so I can reverse the direction of them so I can get rid off the Vdrive dana20 and the np201 Going to install an Atlas 4 speed in June sometime.
I wish I would have done that to begin with.

Cool rigs. We stayed at the same rv park as you guys during safari. I wish I could have seen them in action. My next rig will be a family buggy. Looking forward to following this one.

Nice thread. I've really enjoyed the pics. Amassing how kids can sleep while strapped in wheeling. My niece and nephews kids fall to sleep every time when we are wheeling.
Where do you guys live? Must be Lake Shore or some place like that with all the fields around you. I'm jealous, it would be nice to have acres between me and my neighbors.
